He only ever pandered to the worst instincts of his "base" and ignored the concerns of others. The divisions have existed for a very long time but Trump did nothing to heal them and a lot to widen them.

He constantly lied, paid little attention to the law and even less to convention. He was a disaster of a President who has set back the cause of democracy very significantly.

Real Presidents work for all Americans and aim to raise their standing across the entire world. Trump has diminished the American brand just when it was under threat from the Chinese model anyway. That doesn't matter so much in Europe but it does in Asia, South America and Africa.

The bill for Trump will go on being paid for a very long time.

I wish Biden well - he appears to be the side of many of the organisations and movements I utterly despise: antifa, wall street, liberal social media propaganda networks, BLM, globalism. Given the US has rejected "America first", it is fitting Biden will likely indulge the electorate in a solid round of job haemorrhaging to whichever foreign corporates his son signed their family name up to. If he can appease these forces, keep what few marbles he has remaining, and reach across the aisle to return the economy to Trump's pre-covid levels, then kudos.

The very idea that the counter to the above movements dies with Trump is frankly the most naive bollocks I've ever heard. So you can "hope" all you like - the notion of nation states protecting and prioritising their own will not go away, as you will most certainly see in the coming years. The more you demonise and reach for insane hyperbole in "othering" your political antagonists, the more will come to the same conclusion.
