I think this is one thing that most of us agree on, whomever is in charge next season the squad needs significant investment. Unlike in previous windows, this coming summer we need investment in all areas of the pitch bar a new goalkeeper (unless Vicente leaves). Ferguson and Eze were a start in injecting youth into the squad, but we need more energy and pace if we are to remain competitive. If we don't invest then next season we will have to sit even deeper. It does increasingly feel like the summer will be key to defining our future as a club. Thankfully, for all his detractors, it does seem Roy should be able to sail us safely into port where the board can then plot our next course. Sometimes I wonder if Parish is saving whatever transfer kitty is available for the next manager. Barring Eze, signings under Hodgson have hardly been inspiring - Cahill, getting on, slow - Kouyate, distinctly below average - McCarthy, nothing special - Sorloth, ha ha ha, Jach - less said the better. Ferguson - is the lad ever going to be fit and prove his potential?

If none of the players in that team are going to make it then what is the point of having an under 23 side, they might as well just scrap it. Or is it just a rehab team for our geriatrics who are constantly injured. If it is then I suppose there is some justification for keeping it. Roy is not to blame for it but we will never know if any of them can step up because they haven’t been given the chance and that is part of his remit. Roy's remit is around the first team. Not Youth Development. He watches the U23 games both in person and the videos. He holds regular meetings with Derry and McCarthy in which they have an opportunity to promote/recommend players to him. Yes it's his decision after that, that's what he's paid for. I think if a club can get one or two players through into the First Team at any given time, that's considered a success. Running the teams is the cost of doing business...many are called but few are chosen !

There’s a piece in the Evening Standard quoting Roy saying that he has no plans to retire and wants to continue in management . so what you're saying is that we're going to have to kidnap Roy and fake a disappearance for a period of time long enough to warrant Parish hiring a new manager?

I keep hearing from people connected with the game that we will NOT be relegated because Roy Hodgson is the manager.

Personally don't think we are totally out of the woods this season. We are about where we were last season where we had a nice spell before lockdown and then a very bad run at the end. The squad is essentially the same but a year older which might be telling particularly in the run in.

I've heard from the time he was appointed that we would be safe from relegation all the time that Mr Hodgson was at the helm.More recently I have heard similar sentiments.

The general consensus is that Mr Hodgson is vastly experienced and has the know-how to chart a course to avoid relegation.I have been left in no doubt that he is held in high esteem.

Consistently hear pundits like Lawro,Sutton, claiming just how capable Roy is and he is held in the greatest of esteem .

Unless you do, it may well be that Derry is recommending one or two, or more and Roy is choosing not to bother. You can’t defend managers decisions with facts you don’t know. I agree that unless you are Chelsea or similar you are unlikely to pull more than 2 of 3 out the hat, but I find that to currently have an U23 side with no-one capable of being tried out even in cups and meaningless matches (like end of last season) to be a damning indictment of either our system or our manager.
