This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Selhurst is obviously very important to us but I was disappointed that we couldn't find another suitable location.

I really dont see the point of this and it strikes me that this is all about SP Why polish a turd. that money should be used towards building a new ground even if it means it sits there or put into other things to gain interest. I don't see how anything else can really be done with other stands theirs no extra land for those and as has been shown transport is a big issue this cant really be fixed in the current location. Good idea, where do you suggest? we build our new ground? there must be loads of cheap land around the Croydon area.

Not to mention a bigger pitch, better changing facilities, better and more hospitality, better concourse facilities, better toilets, more accessible seating, better media facilities, better match day experience, better viewing in the Arthur and a sexy looking stand.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Sooner or later building regulation will change and our ground or the main stand will be deemed unfit for purpose. For me the increase in capacity is a bonus not the reason why we are doing this. Ground safety and a better match day experience are the reasons why we have to spend the money. Unless we want to move to god knows where there are no viable alternate sites. Under those restrictions I think SP and the architects have come up with a good plan.

Selhurst is obviously very important to us but I was disappointed that we couldn't find another suitable location. Not sure where that would be in London without moving out and losing our ID completely. There is literally no room left in South London. Wimbledon have got extremely lucky(after a number of years of terrible luck) with the dogtrack but are having to build it in with a lot of apartments around it to get it over the line.

My understanding is that is that numerous sites were considered but at the end of the day for whatever reason the option was to develop 'Selhurst Park'. The proposed development which in the main sees the construction of a brand new stand has been costed at £75-100 Mill.A brand new stadium would cost considerably more and this might have been influential in deciding to stay at our ground and develop it.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I expect at least £10M of the cost results from building it in a phased manner so as to keep fortress Selhurst four sided!

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave The new stand looks great in design and I hope it turns out the same as it will be a real asset. Issue for me is what do we do after this? The Arthur needs sorting but if we thought planning for the main stand was tough wait until we try this one. The Whitehorse could be changed if Sainsbury's play ball and then there is the Holmsdale...is that really likely to be knocked down! With out knowing any of the details it is a bit depressing that redeveloping a very old and shabby Selhurst Park was the best option.
The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years |
