FYI It got me thinking why on earth would any player or agent agree to such a one sided clause? Sometimes a 12-month option includes a sizeable pay rise for the player.

Even the bbc are reporting this, so it must be true With Johnstone still out till next month (coccyx) that leaves either Whitworth or Goodman as back-up 'keeper.

We could recall Matthews from Scotland (can't remember the club) apparently he has been playing well there. It's a tough call as you say because of injury and yet I would hate to stand in the way of a fringe player finishing his career at a top club, it may also smooth the way with AWB or others on loan.
