Why wouldn't he listen to the very people that this issue affects most of all. It's a mess granted but if we are going to approve this "shoddy" deal then we should at least try and win the approval of the NI politicians. Of course it is an NI issue foremost. But the DUP, are they representative of what the population there is thinking? Unrest quite likely IMO.

Kind of true, but it seems the small number of NI politicians are making the decision for everyone else. Does this group truly represent the views of the whole of the UK?

It would be more helpful if Sinn Fein participated but they have chosen not to take their seats in parliament. If I had my way there would be a united Ireland but that cannot happen until there is consent which wont happen any time soon.

Cox's opinion is "It's a Trap!" I suppose that means JRM will have to vote against the "new" May proposal with his mates in the DUP; but that will mean a 2nd vote so still time for another ERG flip flop. Edited by pefwin (12 Mar 2019 11.35am)

Well to say he is one of the most self serving politicians would be fair.

For me this solution allows the EU to hold this against us during the next phase of negotiations for a free trade deal. Our government will say "right lets talk about the NI border solution" and no doubt the EU will say "in the fullness of time to start with lets talk about our issues first once we have settled these....." It sounds like the DUP and the ERG will vote against it

We could solve the Northern Ireland problem by flogging it to the Republic which would also save us a small fortune in the process
