You conveniently forgot to mention that the UK has one of the highest rates of inflation in Europe, an economy killer. Interest rates will be going up in q1 2022which will hit investment and employment. High wages and high inflation simply makes the UK uncompetitive. Looking at employment numbers in isolation is meaningless.

Of course it is orange, let's put it alongside the feel good factor for those employed, the reduction in welfare payments and the unemployed numbers dropping.
Thanks for the prompt Mr negative.

You clearly don't understand the first thing about economics or national finance. Go look up the effect of inflation on an economy that's already taken a massive financial hit. Feel good factor? Wait until next year.

Have you ever lost your job, and been to court for a repossession of your home; through no fault of your own during a financial crash. If not please do not lecture me on the effect it has on people. I have so I am more than qualified I reckon.

Sorry to hear you lost your home/job but it has nothing to do with my comment regarding a lack of economic and national financial knowledge when it comes to subjects such as inflation.

Thanks but at the time I was one of many 1000s in the same boat. if interest rates rise it will be good for savers who are in year 9 of virtually no interest.
That is defo not me I might add but it won't reach the 15% I paid for 3 months so there's a good thing. It was never going to stay low but all the time it has been millions have benefitted as well. That financial hit was so unexpected as to be unblamable.
Money spent unwisely in certain situations yes but much more spent trying to help many to get through. Hmg cannot leave this burden for our children or their children. It's happened too many times. so us, the here and now must take some pain for our future generations gain. Is that so wrong?

Well done on bouncing back, Cryrst. It can't have been easy, but must have been both satisfying and a relief to turn things around.

It was and is blue Jay thanks.
Also it was a bit harder to get financial help back then.
3 days in and out to the council/social with bank statements,
And affidavits to prove I was potless.
For a £20 crisis loan to support me the Mrs and my kid
Lucky I did have my trade and a very good former colleague who gave me work and a sub up front.
Must be cos I'm such a nice bloke ha ha.

I watched "Four Hours at the Capitol" last night on BBC2. I am surprised that no-one else has yet commented on it. I found it compelling viewing and urge everyone to see it, via the iPlayer if necessary.

There was a lot of previously unseen footage, mostly from videos taken by the participants. There was no commentary. It wasn't needed as the words of those involved, the participants, police, politicians and their staff spoke for themselves.

Whilst it became clear that there was no predetermined master plan that those at the forefront were aware of, there was the very distinct impression they were being used as "willing idiots" and being goaded to perform a task.

There were some stand out moments for me, among a whole host of informative ones. The Pelosi staffer who had tears in her eyes as she recalled getting under a desk, in fear for her life. The Congresswoman who recalled phoning her husband to say goodbye. But most of all, the Congressman who urged his colleagues not to board the buses that had been sent to remove them to a place of safety, as he thought they would never get back in. His view that this was Trump's plan. Get them out of the Capital, declare martial law, and then that the election result could not be ratified, so he would stay in office. The way he described this startled me, as it had a really authentic ring of truth. Only later, when the politicians refused to leave, and the Police began to push the mob back, did Trump issue any kind of "go home" requests.

Do watch it.

Only just saw this. No doubt its good to be able to get help when needed, but as you well say sometimes when you are forced to stand on your own two feet without much social help you find a way. It's much more satisfying to know that, with a little help from your friends (for being a nice bloke haha) there is often a route out and a better day!

Changing the subject - good to see how Mayor Lightfoot and the Democrats are doing in Chicago - now likely one of the most dangerous Cities in the world.

Nobody cares. Thats the point. Nobody in any position of power gives a single flying f*** if poor black people kill each other. Thats the utter f***ing tragedy of it. So what if there are less cops? If politicians dont give a s*** about the death toll in that city now, are even more deaths going to make the slightest bit of difference?

Black lives only matter when a white person kills them. Otherwise its all just a bit rude to even bring the subject up.

I find it illuminating that no-one at all has commented on this! Has no-one else watched it? It is quite possibly the most important documentary to be made this year, and perhaps for many years. It shows how much democracy itself was under threat, and with Trump threatening to run in 2024, how it could easily be again. The GOP that was a respectable party on the centre right are now running scared of upsetting the Trump base and a disgrace to their proud history.
