The FA's decision to ban Wilf for an extra game was as disappointing as it was predictable.
I can't condone Wilf's reaction to being sent off, hopefully he will learn from this and not allow it to happen again. But neither can I condone the FA's lack of censure of the provocation that finally caused Wilf to react. Players like Wilf and Eden Hazard are increasingly becoming the target of what appears to be systemic and targeted provocation.
To put it bluntly, unless and until the FA are seen to clearly and consistently deter the sort of unsavoury actions exemplified by Ward-Prowse last Weds evening and allow them to go unpunished, they will be emboldened to continue them.

Agree the punishment is not as bad as it could've been but that's because he IS playing against West ham and sitting the Doncaster game out, as the FA have clearly allowed. Do you really think the FA will say "oh yes, we were wrong"? This is a benchmark moment and the club should reassess how it deals with these thugs from now on. Do you think the likes of Big Jim Cannon, Ninja, Andy Thorn, Geoff Thomas, Clint Hill etc would have stood idly by while the star player was getting lumps kick out of him? Not only does Wilf get no protection from officials, he gets no help from his teammates either.
