Here's the official definition: Right-wing populism is a political ideology which combines right-wing politics and populist rhetoric and themes. The rhetoric often consists of anti-elitist sentiments, opposition to the Establishment and speaking for the common people. So. far from his definition I would say Edited by Pussay Patrol (06 Mar 2019 5.30pm)

I think you don't understand what populism is. So you're now saying the media were trying to promote the benefits of migration by saying we've lost control of our borders? They always have as they have an agenda to fulfill. The evidence clearly suggests that any ''benefits'' are clearly minimal............at best.

Usually Gatwick or Luton, always looks in control. Luton is bit tatty but I'm nitpicking Is there a UK border which is out of control? You really have no idea do you. It might look in control because the EU nationals can use the e-gates (ie no counting in and out) and any problematic arrivals are dealt with elsewhere. How many boats have been crossing the Channel? Our "friends" in France are doing very little to assist the situation and never have.

Populism is just popular opinion - it’s only called populism because it’s a way of suggesting that the masses are just stupid and don’t understand issues, detail or nuance etc so can be ignored. It’s another example of how the left media and institutions control language to their advantage. Your question is disingenuous, you know it, everybody else knows it and I won’t engage with it. Your lot aren’t very bright though.

As nouns the difference between popularism and populism is that popularism is any political doctrine chosen to appeal to a majority of the electorate while populism is a political doctrine or philosophy that proposes that the rights and powers of ordinary people are exploited by a privileged elite, and supports their struggle to overcome this.
