pefwin Where you have to have an English ... 27 Feb 19 5.10pm | |

This thread is getting quite stale. Has nobody picked up on the mess the Government has made concerning Alberto Costa's amendment, and the cluster f*** that followed? Has nobody mnoticed JRM and his cronies are shuffling behind May? (That is to give her their vote rather than stab her in the back.)

So trying to advocate rioting as a way to get your point across or because things havent gone your way is correct then? Nope. What I was saying doesn't necessarily mean rioting or violence, it just means doing something, anything other than sitting on your arse complaining about it, i.e. blowing hot air. If you actually believe that liberty/democracy etc. etc. was at stake then do something, anything. Write to your MP. Mobilise others. Join demonstrations. Obviously the far end of that scale is what Matov is suggesting, and not something I condone in these circumstances as I don't think the outcome is anywhere near as apocalyptic as he is suggesting but I respect the total commitment of his approach. Better than shouting into an empty well.

But things did go my way. I abided by the democratic process. I went along and voted Leave on June 23rd in absolute good faith that the result would be acted upon. I, along with over 17 million other people, played by the rules. What other option is open to us? Or does democracy only matter when you get the result that you want? Surely we have a duty to protect democracy? Is that not what we are told around the 11th of November every year? That we should make the effort to vote because people died protecting that right? This is a genuine potential tipping point in our countries history. I had some Remain voting family over for dinner last night. They all made the point that the Leave vote needed respecting because that won. That is how democracy works. Or have I missed some crucial part here? I think that election voting and referendum voting are two very different things when it comes to talking about 'rights to vote' and the reasons behind them. I agree with the leave vote needing to be respected. Some don't, and I can't agree with that viewpoint. I'm pretty sure we will leave, but it will be a half baked brexit. As Stirling says, got to pick your battles on this one I'm afraid otherwise you'll be the only one attempting to storm parliament in May – watch out for the tasers.

But obviously I could be wrong. If Brexit happens then what occurs afterwards will be very interesting politically.....would more Labour and Tory Mps join this breakaway group?......With any luck we could lose Ken Clarke....I suppose that's too much to hope for. If it doesn't happen then apart from everything else I think it would see the Tories break up. Very interesting.

In terms of getting things done in life during your productive years that makes total sense. Even if what is going on within the bedrock of society is very corrosive for future generations....and very detectable if you look beyond the MSM. Still....while there are biscuits to be eaten.... Not sure if that's a reason to pop the corks. Personally I don't regard it good news where people at the bottom have to make sacrifices and the beneficiaries are city hedge funds, sounds like brexit hardship increasing the wealth gap ever wider

Doesn't really matter though does it? All leavers want is to leave, irrespective of whether it's a good deal or not. Leave in whichever form is a bad deal so let's just leave and take our medicine
