Naturally media spout whatever they feel like but apparently Howe doesn't want to come to us whatever happens. It would appear to be that way but we tend to only believe what we want to believe. We believe Nuno is going to Everton because we believe they are a bigger club, which they are. We believe it might be Cooper but because we are unsure of his credentials we think it is going to be a bad appointment. We believe that Dyche is signing a new contract at Burnley. The reality is nobody ,not even the press , who put out these stories have a clue ,it is all speculation. For all we know it could be someone who’s name has not been mentioned.

I suspect that we are going to end up with Cooper simply because nobody else fancies it. If that is the case then we shouldn’t assume it’s going to go badly just because he hasn’t managed in the Premier League before. You never know, he might surprise us.

No one but a full blown masochist would willingly come to Palace if they had reasonable other options. So, we're going to have to make do with either a mid level retread with a sketchy CV or someone untried in the EPL. That's just reality showing its face again.

How long did we spend cocking about before we appointed FDB - hardly a job done properly there eh? Do you really think we're attractive to any of the names being bandied about recently? They all know we haven't got a pot to piss in and the first team squad needs a major overhaul. We should have got Howe or Lampard in ages ago (if they'd take the job that is) to work with Roy, get to know the first team players including u23's and u18's, identify what areas we need buy in and also learn how the club works, which would seem sensible to me and offers a smoother transition and have a proper settled pre season for once. We just seem to fvck about like old ladies all the time, which bores the s*** out me if I'm honest. I'm not being argumentative but.. FDB going badly isn't a reason to rush an appointment now is it? I should think our attractiveness to the various names mentioned differs depending on the individual and what other offers they've got. Hence waiting a short while to see the knock on effect of the big clubs appointments. I'd be happy enough with Howe or Lampard, but neither is so strong a candidate that I'd demand the club sign then up months ago rather than waiting to see who else comes on the market later, and when has a football club ever had its current manager and its next one employed in the building at the same time? I'd expect any prospective managers to watch our games and do their homework before even applying for the job, not get the job and then watch the players. I don't follow your point about everyone knowing we haven't got a pot to piss in and nobody wanting the job therefore. So does that mean we wouldn't have got Howe or Lampard anyway then? My main concern is people treating this in the same odd way they treat the transfer market - that anything other than early signings is a sign of ineptitude or carelessness. Its not like shopping on amazon for f***s sake. Managers and players have changing options all the time, and we are rarely first or only choice for players of the calibre we need, just like the ones we sign aren't always the first and only one we wanted. It is the same with managers.

Cooper is now 1/1 with William Hill. If the bookies are any barometer of this stuff then that may well be a pointer? It’s interesting that Eddie Howe is as low as 5/2 with Paddy Power and Betfair. His name has barely been mentioned lately but clearly there are people putting money on him.

Roy has left, by his own choice, get over it. The club moves on. If perchance we become more successful with a new manager will you apologise to the Roy out brigade as you like to refer to them. No, I didn't think so. You know that for a fact do you.. How do you know what I will and won’t do. Edited by 55 years a fan (07 Jun 2021 7.01pm)

Again, Everton, Spurs? They are bigger clubs and get first dibs. Amazing for us older supporters that we are (almost) fishing in the same barrel. Amazing indeed silver, amazing indeed!

Calm down everyone - betting markets are only a reflection of bets being placed. No- one knows anything, so not sure on what basis punters are placing their bets. That said after feeling really positive from watching “When Eagles Dare” and just how much Palace means to SP - I for one would be really disappointed and underwhelmed if our next Manager was Steve Cooper. Beyond that has anyone noticed he must have hit every branch of the “ugly tree” on the way down and then smashed into the trunk - he’s bloody scary..!!! Surely not..!! COYP

So that's straightforward then. No one knows - not least the bookies who are only interested in your money and thus will set the odds geared on that rather than actual knowledge. So Don Howe it is then :-)
