This thread reminds me of going into the kitchen to grab a drink at a house party and finding a couple arguing in there. Depending on my mood, I’ll sometimes give it a swerve and other times I think duck it, I’m gonna look for a drink, it’s their problem.

The drink being any transfer gossip in this case!

This is a pretty perfect analogy

Can we please try to stick to the subject at hand as I really don't care for scanning through 5 or 6 pages of posts each day about people's personal gripes and squabbles, their reputation or purpose on the forum or their smart arse comments.

Just here to read about potential signings.

I remember King Canute had similarly lofty desires

He's on about 80 grand - which probably is equivalent to around 200 grand for weeks he is fit. Amazingly he has played for England 42 times since 2011 whilst only managing around 100 Premier league starts

Apparently has a 4.5 million release clause as well. On a free it could be an option at the last moment if we can’t find anything else but at this point we have to aim higher. He could have been a top player if his body wasn’t so fragile. At 29 he had probably lost a lot of pace as well.

Knut was very cleverly using the tide as a metaphor. He knew there was no chance of affecting the tide

Looking at Welbeck and Watkins’ records for league goals.
Welbeck has scored 46 in 12 years. Watkins 45 in 3.
Whether his potential merits a £28m price tag is moot but he’s Brentford’s player and he’s worth it to them.

Welbeck is an upgraded version of Fraser Campbell in my eyes...both showed a lot of promise early in their careers. Both grafters, but neither have been prolific scorers.

I'm sure Welbeck's work rate is attractive to Hodgson but if he's looking to solve our goal scoring problem, I don't think Welbeck is the answer

No it’s hard to see him as an upgrade on what we’ve already got.
On another topic Welbeck is another example of the Man U / England pipeline. Did anyone really think people like him, Tom Cleverley or Wes Brown were really international class players?
