We are on track for our record Premier League points total for the second season running, a magnificent achievement. Why in the world would you want to sacrifice that? Originally posted by CrazyBadger
I don't particularly care about pushing up the table. I want to give some youngsters some game time in preparation for next season.

How is rescuing us from certain promotion in his first season, hitting a record Premier League points total in his second and being on track to do it again in his third not doing a remarkable job? What's your definition of remarkable? Originally posted by jeeagles
I think some are getting ahead of themselves about Roy doing a remarkable job. He's done ok. He's won the last 3 games 1-0. Going into them we would have expected to win the two home games and Brighton are on terrible form. I think Roy pays too much attention to goal difference. We've dropped a lot of points where we havent attacked teams at 1-0 down.

With the squad that we have, I think it's wise to think about how we are going to sustain our run in the PL. Record points total doesn't really mean anything unless we end up in europe, but with our limited squad size do we really want that? I'm not sure...(but blooding youngsters does not necessarily mean this dream is over) So in the interest of looking beyond this season.. I think we should give some kids, like pierrick, or Woods, or some other player (I don't profess to know every player in our Academy) some games. One of them may show he can step up. I realise the owners that be want us to be further up the table, to get the extra millions that will offer and this is probably be the way we will go. Parish and Co will parade this season as a glorious success and spunk over the gaping cracks in the squad for another year. We have a rebuilding job to do this summer. RH is not going to be here much longer to keep steadying the ship. We need to start planning for his departure by building a decent youthful squad for the next manager to work with. Game time and Confidence helps youngsters transition to the first team. We have an opportunity to give them this experience, risk free.

Sorry Neillo.... you're just a better palace fan than I am. Come on, you can do better than that ! Seriously, I do get frustrated with the constant nit picking and seeming lack of appreciation for the job Hodgson is doing and the circumstances the club are in. Roy has his faults, but overall I think he's doing an excellent job.

Hodgson has been tarred and feathers by some, however he has met his objective of keeping us in the PL with a limited outlay of funds.I fully appreciate the job he has done at our club and delighted he has signed a contract extension. How has the value of Benteke and Zaha gone down, because of Roy. Benteke is getting on to 30, so his value will fall, the value of Zaha is what we put on him, not what the market thinks, as nobody has bid anywhere near our value. Benteke is worth virtually nothing now. We couldn’t give him away. Strikers will always be worth money if they score. The football tactics have had an effect on Benteke. Not all, but the tactics have. He was fine until Allardyce left and since it’s gone wrong. Your theory of valuation is incredibly naive. Try selling your house for 100% more than what anyone anywhere will pay for it. That will not be the value of your house but your fantasy, same for Zaha. My points on pur transfers was that we’re not signing any flair or creative players and might struggle to with our tactics, or the ones we have haven’t featured/been successful or again don’t fit in with the tactics. Danny Murphy paid out what Roy was all about several times when Roy joined Palace what Roy does and Roy likes but what I’m saying is it’s not all without underlying issues and problems to surface n future. Roy has achieved above and beyond the target in the end this season but it doesn’t come without things to consider for Parish and Freedman with Roy, if they do or can tolerate each other for long enough.

The odd one might get a game from the bench but otherwise it's very unlikely. Firstly, Roy/SP will want to go on picking up points and will not consider weakening the side in the interests of giving youngsters a run out. There is more cash to be earned as you climb the table. Secondly, it would mean dropping players who have got us into he position we are in, which would be a bit unfair on them. Unless we have another injury crisis, or we have a youngster who is too precociously talented to ignore, I'm afraid youth will not be getting much of a look in. But what about the blocking of our academy talent Parish spoke about during that in house interview? Lol lol

One good season can easily be followed by a very bad one, especially when our games are tight score lines which to some extent we’ve been fortunate with this season.

Our young players may not be good enough but it is pretty damning on the development at the club that we have just one player, Brandon Pierrick, who has appeared in the league for us this year who has been aged 21 or under. And he has appeared just once - as a late substitute Man U have had 10 and Chelsea 11, respectively; and it's not as though they have not had points to fight for
