2015-16
Speroni gets injured and Pardew brings in Alex Mccarthy as number one. Mccarthy turns out not to be very good.

2016-17
Pardew tries replacing him again with Mandanda. Pardew gets fired and Allardyce takes over.

2017-18
Allardyce goes. In comes DeBoer who tries to replace him.

So yes, I'd say he's there by default wouldn't you? Not one manager has rated him highly enough to go "he's my number one and I back him". They've all tried to sign a replacement.

What actually happened was:

2014-15
Pulis leaves - Warnock & Pardew play Speroni for that season - SPERONI HAS NO CLEAN SHEET IN LAST 14 GAMES. WH CONCEDES 1 IN TWO GAMES AT END OF SEASON.

2015-16
Speroni gets injured and Pardew brings in Alex Mccarthy as number one. Mccarthy turns out not to be very good. SPERONI IS FIT AGAIN BUT PARDEW PLAYS WH FOR REST OF SEASON.

2016-17
Pardew tries replacing him again with Mandanda. Pardew gets fired and Allardyce takes over. MANDANDA GOT INJURED BUT YET AGAIN SPERONI WASN'T CHOSEN AHEAD OF WH.

2017-18
Allardyce goes. In comes DeBoer who tries to replace him. NO EVIDENCE OF THIS. AGAIN, WHY DID HE THEN PLAY WH IF SPERONI IS SO GOOD?

You are comparing apples with pears. The argument is why has every manager tried to sign a replacement number one If Hennessy is such a good goalkeeper?

More to the point, if Hennessey was such a bad goalkeeper, how has he managed to both win back and then keep his place for so long.

If he was such a bad keeper, why has it been so difficult to find a replacement who is an improvement?

Answer - because there are not many out there who are better than Hennessey who are available, because he is a decent keeper, the group above him in terms of quality are rare and expensive and possibly unlikely to want to come to us.

Probably going to be too little too late!

Spot on. I don't rate Hennessey at all, think he's competent but that's it- but have to spend serious money to get a real upgrade

The way the team is playing I would go for competent any day of the week. Would David De Gea have made a difference probably not with what is going on around WH.
Some of our defending was sambolic under de. Boer and confidence is low. We also cannot score and WH cannot be blamed for that. He is under immense pressure because when we go 1-0 down we lose. That also applied to quite a few games last season.
With Benteke out for 6 weeks it is hard too see who will score surely that is the priority.

Not sure I agree with you. A match winning goalkeeper would have seen us get a point from Southampton and given us a better chance of a point from games such as Swansea and maybe even Burnley. Points that we could well do with at the moment.

Burnley have one. We had one prior to Wayne. They're out there. We just need to scout one out. A bullish goal keeper who is a shot stopper, cross collector and isn't afraid to go through a player to gather the ball. Can't say they don't make them anymore, because they do.
