I am not doing that though, am I?

I am saying it's a pointless waste of time trying to claim that another way would have produced a better result when it's obvious that that is, and will always be, an unknown.

If people want to waste their time, that's their decision.

I think the only place where such discussions can be useful is the enquiry. So if anyone has genuinely useful evidence to put before it they should. Ways to do so can be found. Blowing hot air opinions on an internet forum contributes nothing but hot air.

If it's unknown then others opinions could be right and they have the right to express them without being dismissed as peddling conspiracy theories or misinformation.
If it's just hot air then don't waste any more time in trying to discredit it just because it doesn't follow the official line.

It is utterly pointless debating with this troll…

We were repeatedly told on here that lockdown was to protect the NHS. Even at the lowest end of the estimated cost we could have built 600 hospitals for the money. Now the enquiry has been estimated to cost another £200,000,000. Add to that the societal damage done and the fact that the burden of paying for this will fall on the generations which were least at risk ( while individuals who refused the vaccine are accused of selfishness) and there are legitimate questions to be asked about the whole affair.

With due respect you are missing the point.

I don’t regard it as a waste of my time in trying to point out that debating something that cannot be changed is a waste of time. I am trying to encourage debate on something that is current and impacting the way people are behaving now.

We took decisions on lockdowns prior to the vaccines being available. Its done. Now they are available, yet people like Campbell are undermining confidence in them. Showing that what he spreads is misinformation is, in my opinion, relevant, important and needs debate.

The right place to review the past steps is in the enquiry. Once its report and recommendations are published then debating these will doubtless consume many pages.

It’s like discussing whether we should have not sacked PV last year and that we would still have survived and now be in a stronger starting position this season. We didn’t. It’s history. Much better to discuss what team RH should pick for tomorrow in the hope he reads these pages to learn how to do his job.

Questions that will be asked by the enquiry so that any pertinent lessons are learned. I expect it to review everything without the emotional baggage of those who believe that hindsight has value or that their biases have priority.

[Link] - NHS doctor tells Health Secretary he won't get jabbed

This was good. The government ended up back down when over 100,000 doctors and nurses were going to loose thier job.

Imagine the confidence he must have given to others to speak out. Once that first domino falls...

Very symbolic for me javid asking those nurses a question. All of them as expected wearing masks. In this instance they were muzzles stopping them from speaking.

Women have taken up that mantle on so many occasions recently. Let this be a lesson for some men

It's not easy to discuss things before they've happened is it?
Claiming it's all post facto and so pointless is just saying, "know your place and don't ever question those in authority".
Whatever the outcome of the review the burden of paying for lockdown will fall to those at least risk.

How did protecting the NHS go anyway?

At the end of June 7.6 million people were waiting for hospital treatment – an increase of 100,000 from the month before and almost three million more people than prior to the pandemic.
One in seven of the population is currently on an NHS waiting list for routine treatment, such as hip and knee operations.

As long as it doesn't get personal. Unfortunately both myself and Wisbech are guilty of that.

That needs to change
