I mostly agree but the thing is that if someone claims to be ITK but is actually just spreading wishful rumours and gossip, it can give people false hope. And then when things don't materialise in the way that was described, people can get upset at the club and feel like they were entitled to something that was never actually realistically on the cards in the first place.

As one potential example of this, dazza just recently claimed that Batshuayi is still on the cards for us. From everything I've read from people who I trust much more than him and who have long track records to prove their knowledge of Palace transfer news, Batshuayi is not realistic for us at all due to the staggeringly large wages he demands. And since our Gallagher loan seems to be about 99% certain, loaning Batshuayi isn't an option (and with 1 year left on his contract it presumably wouldn't be a very appealing arrangement for Chelsea anyway). So to me, that seems like a false rumour. You or others can think there's no harm in that and it's all at worst just a bit of fun, but if the end of the window rolls around and people are furious at Parish for not signing Batshuayi like they expected him to, then I don't think that's very fair. For all we know, Parish and co have looked at the numbers and decided long ago that a player like Batshuayi isn't within the realm of possibility for us, yet the club's transfer dealings end up being compared to a bunch of lofty rumours that were never actually realistic at all.

1 - if someone reads the posts on here and takes them as the gospel truth without doing their own research, they need to ask themselves some questions.

2 - If the "rumour/fact/inside information" that the person is reading on here then doesn't happen and they decide to get angry enough about it to vent frustration towards the club for the clubs "lack of activity".. Not a single person at the club will give a monkeys.

3 - all of the people mentioned above in 1 & 2 make up probably less than 1% of palace fans.

My point being, it is never going to be more than a storm in a teacup. If someone decides they want to post "in the know" information on here, then why should it harm anyone else to the degree that they have to basically insult that person?

I’m on these sites often, and Dazza’s info holds up. Think it depends when you are looking at the articles, Dazza seems to give info first and then the news may break a few days later.

Give the guy a break

I’d have to disagree with this statement. It’s actually always the opposite. If you can find a time when someone has revealed inside knowledge that wasn’t already reported in online press then I’d hold my hands up and bow down...but I wouldn’t waste your time finding an example that doesn’t exist.

I will just add I don’t think I’ve ever insulted Dazza or ask him to stop posting, quite the opposite. I can’t recollect insulting Willo either for that matter...although I’ve been a member for a long time and my memory isn’t great lol

Point I’ve tried to make today is some will call bull on things and others call them out for it...that’s not going to change today.

Yes, that's probably true. My point is more that the club seems to be working very hard this window and with a very particular ethos in mind (young, hungry, non-PL players on lower wages). It would be nice if we, the supporters, could judge our transfer window activity as a success or a failure based on the club's own stated goals, rather than be promised the world by people online and then be disappointed that those lofty and unrealistic targets weren't met. It's good to have tempered expectations that are actually grounded in reality.

I myself have been disappointed in previous windows because we didn't get certain players who'd had rumours swirling around them that they were on the cusp of signing for Palace, only to then find out a year or so later that we were never even interested in them in the slightest.

I don't think anyone should be insulted. But I guess reactions like that can be somewhat expected when someone (rightly or wrongly) claims to have a privileged position in terms of insider information. But again, I'm not condoning people acting like jerks to anyone. I'm just saying that it's not always very helpful when people promise the world to news-hungry supporters, and then when the dust settles the supporters always feel let down.

Could we not just keep this post about signings and stop the sniping?
I enjoy Dazza and Willo posts personally but this back biting seems off topic and damaging.

Regarding rumours and "in the know" and "sources", I ask myself, what does the person have to gain by posting?

The old, so called, mainstream media (The Sun) needs to sell advertising on their various platforms.

The "new" media, (The Atlantic) has a subscription model, so they post to drive you to their paid content.

Sky Sports News need advertising and SkyBet revenue.

There must be a lot of low paid workers at these clubs willing to spill what they overheard for a few quid, agents trying to drum up business, greedy family members abusing their inside knowledge.

I have no doubt that these "journalists" have some inside knowledge, however tenuous, and will eschew journalistic integrity for the M.O. stated above.

The main difference between them and Dazza seems to be that Dazza has nothing to gain, and a lot to lose.

I believe Dazza has someone who is ITK, but I still follow media AND social media, a sensible approach. I truly believe a player in joining when CPFC posts, not before.

If anyone deserves be to criticised it is those who are found to be blatantly lying (Kaveh comes to mind).

I am not a bot. No, seriously, I'm not.

So we await
1. formal notification of Gallagher's arrival
2. whether or not we get Downes and what we do with him if he comes (out on loan/Under 23s)
3. striker news - will we actually get one this window
?
4. Another wide player, increasingly looking like NOT Fraser
5. A young CB?
6. a pleasant surprise?

Well time will tell. Meanwhile let's see what further rumours get posted with our name attached and let's enjoy ourselves.
COYP!
