Good point I wonder if anyone has done a report on how much income the club draws into the area from fans. Yes, one of the millions of assessments looks at exactly that, the jobs it creates, the spending by not only the club in the course of its business, but by supporters when passing through and so on The value to the local economy is huge

I think Br*ghton would be very lucky if they were allowed to expand further, due to the proximity of the Green Belt, and surely the extra pressure on one tiny station and a concentrated bit of the road network. As for Palace's application, been looking at the geotechnical report, aside from all sorts of ground problems, the Holmesdale basement is apparently in 50mm of standing water (ie flooded), although this is not clear if it is down to underground water sources or just from other sources - for example it mentions water running down the walls! cheers Dorking, for saving me the effort of having to read all the stuff. problems like that are resolved relatively routinely. The Geotechnical /foundation design people will have that sorted in a jiffy. (assuming there are no leaking underground water supply pipes. which is easy to fix too ) As for replacing housing, that can just be bunging cash into a pot. I recall after the Grenfell fire that the Local Authority (Kensington) admitted it took cash from developers to put into a 'social housing fund' (whatever that is), without replacement building of affordable/social housing. As for an initial decision, I think there is typically a 6 week period for comments, but the size of this proposal may get given a longer consultation period. If any objections are upheld at the Planning meeting, then these will be kicked back to CPFC to lodge an appeal, else resubmit revised plans to address concerns raised. Then more consultation/objection/appeal, until CPFC get the green light. Thing is, most of the local residents bought their houses with discount, because Selhurst Park was already there. How an upgraded stadium could impact house prices is negligible. The stadium was there before most of the residents.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave From the London Plan Loss of existing housing is generally only acceptable where the housing is replaced at existing or higher densities with at least the equivalent level of overall floorspace The Grenfell Tower fire has nothing whatsoever to do with the demolition of residential accommodation to expand a commercial development.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave "Crystal Palace’s plans to redevelop their Selhurst Park ground would generate up to £15m a year for the economy and create hundreds of new jobs, according to a study by economists. A report by Regeneris Consulting, a specialist economic development and regeneration consultancy, has been presented to Croydon Council to spell out how the scheme to revamp its Main Stand would boost the area.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Croydon is definitely on the up, despite the council doing their best to screw it up. When the new shopping centre is built the whole area will get a lift. Improving Selhurst park is in my view as important as that shopping centre to improving the overall area. It would be a huge mistake if the Council were to block this or substantially modify it in any shape or form. My supporting letter to the Council is along these lines (minus the bit about the Council screwing things up of course).

I sent my letter off today. anyone know when the announcement is due? It's normally 10-12 weeks after submission, however, expect this to be pushed back by the council until after the elections in May. They won't risk making any decisions on something this major until after then.

A beautiful new state of the arts stadium in all probability,to grace the Championship, given our appalling injury crisis and having to play four of the top six in the next few fixtures and we are only one point away from the drop zone.

Actually just a new stand and some paint slapped on the other three. And if we are relegated expect some serious feet dragging on the whole project.
