The proof is in the statistics. Not in the prejudices which are built by the myths circulated in the right wing press. That’s where a parallel universe has been created and it’s their readers who are living in it.

This is a complicated subject with many sub sections of our population to consider, along with a variety of different types of crime. Some of which will rise and fall for a variety of reasons. Nevertheless the overall picture is clear. The widely held belief that crime is increasing due to higher immigration is untrue.

Yes I did. It sticks out very clearly. The population during the period between 1898 and 1997 has more than doubled. So it’s hardly very surprising that the number of murders have, over time, kept pace with the population growth. There was an upward trend in the post WW2 period which could be explained by a variety of factors.

However, what’s important are the current trends, not the historical ones, especially as these are the ones now being claimed to be the responsibility of immigration. There is a reassuring picture there. Look at the statistics in Section 2 and read Section 9:-

It must not though be forgotten that murder, terrible though it is, is not the only crime. It should though bring some comfort to those being fed a daily diet that immigration is the cause of every evil that the reality is very different.
