Glad Wright said he didn’t understand why Wharton was taken off. I also said the same earlier on here. It happened last week as well with Hughes coming on. Not against Hughes coming on but it should be to bolster the midfield supporting Wharton and Lerma to see the game out. Happy to see us being positive attacking but it needed caution to see us to the end and get the deserved win. Completely backfired and if they had equalised earlier after our substitutions I think we would have lost. Still a good performance but lacking in being able to be professional and see the game out in my opinion.

Give credit where it is due. The Luton goal was impressive. An inch-perfect assist from Townsend, and then a lucky connection from whatsisname

we need more shots on target. Its as simple as that.

I disagree - thought Mitchell was poor again today - he’s OKish as a left back - but a LWB he is not - poor in possession, positioning and general distribution.

If I were Ollie - this position would be one of my first priorities to resolve come the summer..!!

One of the options I would definitely consider is the LWB who played against us today - Doughty

COYP

It's a good job you are not Ollie..!!

Controversial opinion coming.

I could well see OG letting Eze go in the summer. I want to be clear, it’s not what I want but in the system he deploys Eze may be too much of a luxury.

For the system to work the midfield 3 need to be both clever (which Eze very much is) and work horses (which Eze isn’t)

He is not going to look good either playing out on the left side. As far as I can remember his best moments have been central or coming off the right. He offers no cover to the LWB. Which is another reason Mitchell looks exposed.

I could actually see a three of Wharton, Lerma, Docure

With Olise or Eze behind mateta.

The plus side of this is we would have one of them coming off the bench along with Ayew (can I just add that this seems crazy given Ayew has been one of the better players this season and both Olise or Eze who on there day are magic.

I also think OG will be looking at a faster striker and an out and out LWB in the summer.

what got us today was a lack of clinical finishing. We had a ton of chances.....and failed to convert them.

Luton scoring at the end would have been merely academic had we been better in attack. Our attacking performances are not good enough for the Premier League.

do not crucify our Defenders, they did well for 95 minutes. Our attackers....not so much.

I agree, almost. Mitchell made poor decisions near Luton's goal, Munoz was the opposite

2) I do not know when he only played only 4 minutes in first half when there was a long injury delay

There were eight subs used and I believe that the rules say for each sub 30 seconds of time is added so that would be four minutes plus other minor add on’s so extra six minutes would be correct!

Michell is a liability at LB and LWB and this weakness has been exploited by many teams this season. Newcastle away especially where he was given a torrid time, Johnson last week against Spurs. This has to be addressed and I would rather see Schlupp, that’s how bad the problem is!!

In the press conference Glasner said we didn't put enough pressure on Townsend when he received the ball, specifically referring to our players becoming sidetracked by the full back overlapping outside Townsend.
The lack of challenge enabled Townsend to cut inside (as we know he does) and pick his cross by which time Luton had a number of runners ready to attack the delivered ball in the box.
Rewatching the video it's clear Glasner has Mitchell in mind.
Instead of putting Townsend under immediate pressure he runs away from him to track the full back on the outside (which Glasner didn't seem to view as a threat).

As Clough said, It’s all about putting the ball in the onion bag. We haven’t got a scooby. Until we get a striker who can score, we can have all the forward attacking possession we want, and we’ll still have plenty of games like yesterday.

Both Eze & Mitchell were out there, Mitchell rightly or wrongly chose to pick up the overlapping full back which left Eze some yards away from Townsend, for sure if Mitchell had gone straight to Townsend & put him under pressure Townsend would have had to chose what to do, deal with Mitchell or push it down the wing, I wondered if Glasner was saying that the ball down the wing would have been less direct, less iminent danger & perhaps give us the opportunity to defend the cross better -

Also I did wonder at the time if our own experience / knowledge of Townsend contributed to our undoing, by that I mean I absolutely expected him to cut inside & shoot, instead he cut inside & floated the cross -

Obviously at 96 minutes of a very physical game its easy to sit here & criticise certain players / elements of the game & I am as disappointed as anyone but I genuinely felt that we were making progress, especially with the high press, defending corners & the players genuinely looked as though they were enjoying playing again - so I am really looking forward to seeing his thing have improved after the squad has been training together for the next 3 weeks ( obvs the internationals will be away but the rest of the guys will be together) -
