Hodgson now holding the team back. He is a stubborn old man. He wont play Franca as he did not support buying him.

For some reason will not play Richards who is a massive upgrade on Joel Ward. Played well in the Doucoure role today and proved himself well worthy of his place.

Wan Bissaka only got to play because we were short of personnel, went on to become a £50m player within 18 months. Lets not forget we were trying to sell him to Colchester before he broke through in the first team.

Could have brought Ahmada on for Hughes and Franca for Edouard today, but did not. Mateta is a complete waste of space.

Well I thought that was a battling performance from the boys today with a weakened side.We limited West Ham to very few chances and every player put a shift in and with a bit of luck could have nicked a win.I cannot believe the negative comments on here as all I expect is the players to give us their all which they did today. COYP !!

Roy is a cautious manager and that won't change now.
If there's a 10% chance the subs could win the game but also a 10% chance they'll lose it, he won't take the chance

I think both sides of the debate here have some merit. The squad we have available currently severely lacks creativity. In these circumstances does Roy opt for more seasoned players who are likely to perform with discipline and determination ? Or does he risk throwing in a couple of youngsters who might add something unexpected but may lack discipline and resilience ? I think he made the right call today away against an on-form West Ham, and I thought the players did pretty well given their capabilities. But comparing this to last season, when we went to Selhurst to see Zaha, Eze and Olise in the same team (admittedly rarely), it is dismal to watch.

I watched Franca's "cameo" v Spurs, and he was terrible. As a young guy and a flair player sometimes things won't work for him, but having seen that I am not surprised at Roy's reluctance to give him many chances. Other lessons reinforced today were that Will Hughes (bless him) is spirited but limited, Lerma is solid but offers little creatively, and Richards acquitted himself well in an unfamiliar role but is unlikely to develop into a proper alternative in midfield. But overall credit to the players to come away with a point in the circumstances.

The most accurate comment I have seen here is that our first 11 is probably the strongest we have had, but the squad is one of the weakest. With injuries we will be lucky to avoid a relegatio scrap in my view.

Have to say...all the doom and gloom I really enjoyed the game. I don't get to many games these days lately but I had that magic spark going to the game today.

I'm going to the next two home games before I fly back and I'm going to bring all my positive vibes.

Realistically tho I was targeting 4 points this week so on schedule!

Also in fairness when I was going every week under Roy the last few years I did loose the spark a bit.

Have you attended any training sessions recently?

Of course all opinions welcome even if spouted without knowledge

I agree with the comments that with 2 out of Eze, Schlupp, & Doucoure we would have won the game.
In the end we were unlucky in that the slight deflection on Kudus shot beat Johnstone but the howler from Mavropanos got us back into the game. Edouard still has quite a bit to do though and needs credit on the finish.
Apart from that there were not many clear chances - Edouard nearly got on the end of Guehi cross from a set piece just before we scored and Bowen's header near the end were the only 2 i can recall as good chances.
Thought West Ham were not at their best and we were gritty. A lot of long balls today - at times we were winning the second ball from the knock down but as the game went on, we tired and were losing these but stayed in our shape out of possession.
Hopefully Schupp can come back in for the Bournemouth game. I suspect Richards got the nod today to help defend the West Ham set plays. I think the 3 goals we conceded in the 4-3 game at the end of last season were all goals from set pieces. At least today we defended these well.

A pretty turgid game with a distinct lack of quality from both sides.

We've been missing key players all season and not being able to play Eze and Olise together has pretty much rendered our attack to pure hope. This can be blamed on misfortune of injuries but also poor recruitment. We're all hoping Franca comes good but we've seen little of him, what the reasons are for that is open to discussion.

What we're basically left with is a lot of useful squad players all being forced into a starting 11. Ward, Hughes, Schlupp, Ayew, Richards (out of position), are all decent to fill in when necessary or battle for specific positions however when pretty much all starting without a distinct lack of other viable options then it makes for a very average side.

Fairplay to Edouard for getting another goal, he's been feeding off of scraps all season but scored some important goals. Also well done Richards, he had a strong game considering he was playing out of position and apparently only found out late.

Onto the Bournemouth game where points are very important. They're in good form and like to play with advanced speedy wingers so it's gonna be a big test for our fullbacks!

How do you know Hodgson didn't support buying Franca ? I've not seen that reported anywhere. I assume you must have missed Franca's performances in a Palace shirt, because I've seen nothing to suggest that he's ready for first team football.

Richards played well as a DM. It doesn't necessarily follow that he would have been as impressive at right back. Ward has not put under any real scrutiny by West Ham, surprisingly.

And I think if Roy had made the subs you are suggesting, we might have lost the game.

Fair assessment.

Its tight games like this that really highlight how poor our summer recruitment was. If we could have put that 30/40m on the pitch it might have been enough to win it

A lot of Franca's appearances for Flamengo were from the bench. He has limited First Team experience and is a "Work in progress".
