I’m sure we would all love to see Palace playing progressive attacking football like the top teams. However, to do that SUCCESSFULLY you need the right players and we simply don’t have enough of them to achieve that.

In my 50 years supporting Palace I think I’ve only ever seen one team that could play decent possession football and get results and that was the Venables team that got us promoted but whicagre was soon undone with the sale of key players and therein lies our problem – keeping the players that can play the kind of football people hanker after.

“Look at Brighton”, people say. Yes, they have done really well the last couple of seasons but how long will they be able to sustain it? I can recall Southampton having a short spell in the top 10 but they sold too many good players and failed to replace them with adequate replacements. Brighton risk doing the same.

I wasn’t at yesterday’s game, but judging by the intermittent reports on the Beeb, we were pretty poor but we were game savvy and clinical. The score line flattered us but then we’ve lost points in games when our performance warranted a better return.
I’ll reserve judgement on our style of play until we have our 1st choice line-up match fit and playing.

Pardew got us to a cup final something we had not achieved in a very long time and you could say it was with Championship level players.

Roy took one of those teams down so did Sam.

People are looking at how we played towards the end of last season and enjoyed it so why cant we play like that now again these teams that are at bottom of the league not the boring stuff which is why so many wanted Roy gone before.

Football is suppose to be entertaining

Out of interest would you be happy if Palace next season chose to go with Sam or Pullis?

And who were the players that benefited from that style of play ?

Zaha - gone. Olise - injured. Eze - having to do it on his own prior to his injury.

And your question is just plain stupid.

I was at the game yesterday and agree with most of the points about Ward; his physical presence/positioning is strong but it is the raw pace that seems to be the problem as he gets older; interestingly, when Clyne came on, the problem down the right side seemed to dissipate. Clyne has a lower centre of gravity, is a bit quicker and supports the attack more in my view. I wonder what Roy will do next week - maybe give Ward a bit of a rest?
It was also interesting to see Roy keep Hughes on for the full 90 and take of Doucoure. I sense Hughes is very much a Roy type player and wouldn't be surprised if he stays in the team next week along with Schlupp.

We all know they should have bought a right back in the summer but we are where we are. Ward has been up against two very fast wingers. Gordon and Amdouni, in the latest games and the latter went off soon after Ward so Clyne got a break. It is McNeil at Evrton next week who is a very different type of winger whom Ward should match up better against

I don't know if Doucoure was a tactical sub - he hadn't been booked - but it was odd to see last year's POTY giving way for Eze rather than the inffective Hughes. We may find out that he and Edouard had picked up the prevalent hamstring injuries at the club

Yes, i watch every game complete, on TV obviously, the gap between the quality between our players and theirs was vast, our players dont panic in possession , unlike Burnleys who continually panicked on the ball, the plan to play the way we did was limited to the quality available, when Eze and Olise are match fit we will dominate most games, 5 clean sheets in 10 league games is excellent, second only to Arsenal, 8th to 14th is a superb return for a club our size, we dont have backers willing to plough millions into the club, that is the bottom line, take a look at the championship, all of them would swap position with us, footballing and financial wise.

Can you explain how Brentford a smaller club than us does not have this inferiority complex and expects to take on and beat the top clubs and regularly does. They have beaten Chelsea three times in a row away from home also this time without Toney, why can’t we aspire to be more like them as they are playIng attractive football and getting results too..There scouting system is light years better than ours, in my opinion if we improve in that department we can also be more competitive in this league on similar resources.

The job yesterday was to get the win. Burnley were desperate to get their first home win and climb out of the relegation zone. They were always going to give it their best shot against a Palace team without its creative players.

Palace made sure they got the win so job done. They did it by scoring two excellent goals as well. Ayew’s persistence to win the ball & cross for Schlupp to knock in was commendable. And Eze’s calm pass into the path of Mitchell (though I don’t think it was meant for him) for the second goal was sublime. It reminded of Pele’s pass for Jairzinho in the 1970 World Cup final…

Also at Brentford re Ward.
Maybe Ferguson was the hope to come in, but that boat has now sailed.
We definitely need a new RB in January. In the meantime Schluppie can play there. Richards?
Yesterday was very clear that this is the wrong level for Ward. The pace beats him all the time now.

how many times have we turned over the top teams , Man city took 233mins to score against us , see were brentford are in 10 years they have had 2 seasons , Bournemonth started of with no fears then one to many players sold , back to the championship they went , and looks like there going that way again , so to say there light years ahead of us you need to look at the big picture not a tiny window

Credit due there on those ones. However they also bought Riedewald, Marange, Sorloth, Mutch, Mandanda and many other deadwood players. We also paid significantly for those, except Johnstone as he was initially just back up for Guaita.
They're supposed to be finding the gems like Koloeosho (2.6m) plus any Brighton player you want to pick under 6m.
Also the same scouting department that thought we should spend 20m on a goalkeeper when a decent right back like Timothy Castagne was available for 17m.

Marange how far do you want to go back? Every club has transfers that dont work out, even your beloved Brighton.
Try looking at positives, rather than dwelling on negatives, as your arent going to change anything.

I believe yesterday was possibly one of the first times (if not the first) that Ward was taken off as a tactical substitution by Roy.
He was struggling against the winger and despite his good positioning and physical strength he can’t deal with raw pace or clever footwork.
I think this could be his last season at first team level, but he has been a brilliant player for the club.
Richards has featured in a couple of cameos as a full back and hasn’t impressed being all at sea positionally.
It might be something he could learn, but you wouldn’t want him exposed at Premier League level.
He’s athletic, competitive and decent in the air and I like him as a player but only as a centre back where he can best display his attributes.

Don't disagree but ward back from injury and given his age returning to full match fit takes longer.

Eze had to come on.

Somebody had to come off.

Burnley were knocking at the door but Roy must have judged them to be of little effect.

Lerma and Hughes could hold the middle.

He was right.

As both are out of circulation and officially retired (I acknowledge so was Roy) it’s probably a moot question. However I would be happy with a manager that has a successful record of managing in the Premier or a top European league, can command the respect of the players and can get them well organised, disciplined and capable of consistently winning games. If that isn’t in a free-flowing style of football I can happily live with that.

Should such a manager get the team into the Champions League but some find the style of play boring, then really I don’t mind. Much better than plummeting down to the Championship or worse while attempting to play like peak Brazil as a number of teams have previously done and arguably as Palace did under Big Mal who laudably tried to play the game ‘the right way’. That was a painful personal experience. The continual expectation and crushing disappointment week after week was far worse than grinding out a dull 2-0 away win like yesterday. Unless you have a squad of superstars/‘Galacticos’ like Man City, Barcelona et al it appears extremely difficult to make it work and win enough points to succeed, so thus why we have someone like Roy running things
