Amid all the negativity, Ayew’s superb goal seems to have been overlooked. I thought he played really well.

You know Ayew played well when no one is complaining about him. For me he's one of the first on the team sheet

He's played 2400 career minutes, the equivalent of 26 games.

We are clearly paying for potential, which was also recognised by the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich according to reports, so let's give him some time to get up to speed.

He is a player for next season more than this one you'd expect.

He's generally been playing very well for a while now. We just need a few more goals from him.

Ultimately the reason he is kept in charge is because he will grind out enough points to keep us up whilst putting zero pressure on the owners to spend. A new manager wouldn't put up with it.

I think this is exactly right which is why the Board went back to Roy. His appointment always seemed to me to be just a placeholder, putting off any decision on manager another year (at least). We should not be surprised we are back at Royball?

Roy, Your starting 11 let in 2 goals. The young players came on, plus Matata, who granted is absolute toilet and we scored a goal. So technically did better with the kids on.

Perhaps you should focus on getting your front 3 to press the goalkeeper when you are 2 down, rather than blaming everyone else.

Time is up I am afraid. Hopefully he will go before the end of the season so we can get a bit more enjoyable football, see some of the academy players, and actually have a go at the bigger teams.

Not going down as there are 5 rubbish sides at the bottom - the 3 that came up, Bournemouth and Everton, especially if they get a points deduction.

Well done, you win the most stupid comment of week award, he hasn't even started a game yet, FFS, give the lad a chance.

Absolutely.

The team who played against Newcastle wouldn't have beaten them in a month of Sundays and neither would the team last night against Spurs, who never really put their foot down.
I respect Joel Ward highly for what he has done on and off the pitch, but he and Clyne are both wanting at this level. JRS is way off PL level and saying so isn't wrong.
Last season we had 3 top players who could change a game. One has left and 2 are injured.
As many have said, we are where we are. However, we now go into 3 / 4 games where we should really win the first 3 and could also beat West Ham. Do that and its 12 points and we are well in the top 10.
I am looking forward to a good day out next Saturday with hopefully Eze and Olise back and a good win against Burnley.

It doesn't take long for the mob to start whining about Roy Hodgson.

He was right about our subs. Rak Saki is lightweight and I hope Franca was suffering first night nerves because he was appalling.

The fact is that we are suffering, as usual, from a lack of signings.

Our forwards are bang average, Joel Ward is 5 seasons past the point where we should have replaced him, we have no proper cover for Mitchell, and without Olise and Eze we are incapable of producing sustained pressure or have any pace or creativity at all in the midfield.

The squad cannot cope with injuries to key players, and Roy cannot be blamed for that. I do feel that he should have made substitutions after we went behind, but judging by the contribution from the subs, it would have made no difference anyway.
The bigger picture is that with players coming back, we be a lot better, but we do need to sign a left and right back and a striker.
For how many more windows will we be saying that?

This is bang on and those additions would make a huge difference to the mentality in the club and fan base now and would have given us half a chance of hanging onto to our better players in the future.

Whilst Mitchell is OK I think he lacks quality and is another I'd be looking to upgrade rather than cover.

I literally couldn't give a monkeys what Roy says in the pointless post match interviews and press conferences and anyone who thinks that last nights starting eleven and bench is much better than Championship level is sadly deluded.

Really? I must be deluded then. I watched Sunderland win fairly comfortably today and they are around play-off standard. Not too many of their team would get into ours. Forwards excepted clearly.

Yes really - and you answered your own question. If your team carries no attacking threat at all then you have nothing.

I know nothing about Sunderland but I'd hazard a guess that their full backs aren't far behind ours either.
