That’s an example of one extreme. At the other end of the scale would be a society where one group of people decide they don’t like another, maybe because they look or sound different to them, and use power and/or force to try and remove them. Plenty of actual historical examples of that.

Yeah, the Christians in the middle east know all about that one.

I agree with a lot of your takes but I can't with this one I'm afraid.

I view it as the continual concession of the right. You give another inch and then they move onto the next and another inch gets taken. It doesn't stop.

It's not a zero tolerance to racism, it's a zero tolerance to a different opinion on what they want.....For example, when you point out that kneeling for black lives matter was itself divisive, racist and made no sense, you're told to shut up.....remember how the treated those who booed kneelers....these people have zero tolerance to more than just 'racism'.

It'll stop when they are policing what you say in your own home......very selectively on who they police I suspect.

Yep, those old enough to remember know that when PC was introduced it was all framed as being polite and kind to people.......then it progressed to words like offence....then their goto word of 'hate' and now it's about persecuting people and 'zero tolerance'.....all heavily funded.

If nothing else the last couple of decades have proven that the slippery slope is not always a fallacy but rather can, some some cases, be demonstratively shown to be accurate.

I'm reminded of an episode of Star Trek where a society who prided itself on harmony sentenced people to death for walking on the grass. They thought it was all fair because the signs were in plain sight and the laws were clear.

We should be careful what we wish for and what we tolerate on our 75ish year watch.

Never watched Star Trek and have no interest in doing so, at all, ever.

I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at there either Hrolf? Maybe I’ve misconstrued the ramifications of ‘zero tolerance’? In my mind, I was suggesting: that which does objectively and indisputably qualify as racism will not be left to slide by the club. As to what the punishment is I was thinking perhaps a fine if possible? Maybe a 5 game ban? Would serve as a deterrent surely? I’m not one to make that decision but as previously alluded to I don’t think a lifetime ban and public flogging is necessary or correct.

and a few Christians, closer to home, have felt the cold reality of prejudice.

No virtue signalling points for him with his tribe.

Best to ignore it's happening though.

Correct.

The ultimate goal of Political Correctness is to shut you up, while allowing them to say what they want.

Make a childish schoolboy eye-gesture and have Gary Linekar crucify you on national telly - . Call somebody a Gammon.....tumbleweed.

Continual concession of the right....smh

It's a sustained push to eradicate racism. And I cannot see how in anyone's eyes there is anything wrong with that. If you are not the sort of guy who is likely to fall foul of it, I really cant understand the issue.

Re kneeling. Everyone is allowed an opinion on what it isn't and isn't achieving. What isn't helpful is standing up booing.

I suspect there would be a high corelation between the boo'ers and the type of guys that will make slitty eye gestures.

Someone called me a gammon as I walked past him and his mates after Brexit. I told him I knew what that meant and that it was not OK to refer to people like that. After 5 minutes of "discussion" I had crucified them. So much so that they got shirty with me.

It was more fun than I'd had in a long while!

Only a couple of weeks ago I got involved in a discussion with a young chap from Auckland.Suffice to say we were on opposite sides of the political spectrum and had widely differing viewpoints.

I raised his hackles to the extend that the decibel level of his voice increased and he bellowed out a derogatory phrase which referred to me as "Buffalo snot".I informed him that by plummeting to such depths he had comprehensively LOST the argument and was delighted that I had emerged victorious.

The chap, molten with anger, placed his glass on the bar with some force and took off like Usain Bolt in the direction of the exit, muttering words which I could not decipher.
