I thought we controlled 80 minutes of the game and had some bad luck at the very start and end of the match. Our crossing was pretty poor tonight, although there was no natural forward to try and get on the end of anything. Richards had another good game as did Guehi so shows we have good options in that position. Mitchell needs to work on the final third and right back is still an area we need younger options. Midfield was a little lost but grew into the game. I think Roy is starting to look at the squad to see what needs the biggest work in the summer. The biggest has to be the area we have needed for 3-4 seasons. A proper forward who has the instinct and quality in the box. The issue is many teams need the same and they are very hard to find! Edited by Palace 1979 (25 Apr 2023 10.28pm) A pretty fair summary. Overall the game reflected my thoughts prematch. I suspected it would be low scoring and perhaps lacking in dynamism/quality. A sloppy start from us allowed a very early, sh!t concession of an own goal and a mistake at the end which might not have happened were we defending an away point/win led to a penalty. Wolves didn't really earn either IMHO. Overall we looked the better side however were not able to be clinical in front of goal, a longstanding problem. The midfield was resourced by players absolutely bereft of game time and it showed however might have been deemed necessary through fatigue - it certainly wasn't an XI we'd see with everybody fit and available, Roy or no Roy. I've seen nothing to suggest the Olise incident wasn't a penalty, we were close with no cigar on a few occasions and without two crap and unlucky goals may have nicked one or two ourselves but the cookie didn't crumble as such. C'est la vie, que sera sera, wipe our mouths and move on. Edited by Nicholas91 (25 Apr 2023 10.35pm)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I thought Palace were excellent in the second half. Completely dominant. Very impressed throughout with Ayew, Hughes and the back four. Feel sorry for Sam J - hardly a save to make all game, then the late calamity. Here’s hoping the injury to Andersen isn’t too serious. I agree, cannot understand all the negative posts tonight.I thought we played okay tonight and deserved a draw at least.2 nil flattered Wolves tonight who do not concede many goals and we were lacking in a bit of guile to break them down tonight.

The U21's changed their winning team and got thrashed by Wolves as well, they must like us. Not that we were bad far from it, but experimenting was not necessary. Memo to our coaches at every level, we pick the best team to win the game.

Can I ask to all those blaming Roy and the midfield 3 tell me exactly how they stopped us getting a point from that game? Two things to be clear, I said 1 point, not a win and I didn’t say list the midfields limitations. Yes, Luka is a slow, walking yellow card and Hughes stayed still passing back. But the brief clearly was try and get an away draw and Andersen put it in his own net after a couple of minutes. Take the first few minutes out of that game and that starting 11 has just gone up to Wolves on a Tuesday night, allowed our first choice midfield a deserved rest and got a bore draw and 1 point closer to 40. Having Schlupp and Doucoure in there from the start wouldn’t have got us a 3-0 win tonight. And they’ve both been part of sloppy goals whilst on the pitch.

Got to say I agree with all of the last few posts. Any weaknesses we have are magnified by our lack of a striker worth the name.

All good and correct apart from what you said about Hughes.

I must admit, I've been wrong about Eduoard. I always thought he had ability, just needed a run of games. But to be fair, he's been given a fair crack over the past few games and he's shown very little (a good finish against Leeds aside). Generally lazy and slow. I almost think I'd go for Mateta over him at the moment...which is saying a lot...because I think he's a donkey too.

Considering the changes I thought the effort and energy was good. We lost because Wolves were the better team. Their consistent defensive blocking was making me envious. Well done and well deserved Wolves.

BTW, I am fed up with Eduoard. I have seen him play with super energy and aggression when he first came, but never since. He always manages to never be in position. He’s letting the side down. At least with Mateta he gives 100%
