Fair play to him for taking it on. I'm pretty sure Roy had come out previously and spoken of a still very much alive 'love for football'. I am inclined to believe it is this driving his continued desire to be employed within the game and agree money would be a strange one!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Roy is not going to gain anything from this other than a payday and something to keep him busy for a couple of months. If we stay up everyone will point to us having the easiest run-in of the bottom half teams. If we go down everyone will say we should have stuck with Patrick. Either way he won't be in charge next season. I'm resigned to the fact this was probably the only logical stop gap solution, but I'm just pi$$ed this decision had to be made. Unless something comes out that Vieira had given up or had a disciplinary issue then I still maintain this was the wrong decision. Obviously I hope I'm wrong and Roy rolls back the decades to when he was at his peak and that the players lift themselves after looking really low against Arsenal. The fact Roy was in the crowd against Man City suggests to me this decision was not as quick as might be communicated publicly.

Fair play to him for taking it on. Why do you think he took it on? Unfinished business? Or because he's an honourable man an he feels it's his duty? Or maybe because he can't stay away and the lure of the easy £££ is just too much to resist? Edited by southnorwoodhill (21 Mar 2023 10.49am)

We were easy pickings for every team in the division. Our opponents would have prefered we stuck with PV

As a short-term solution, it might seem a reasonable option under the circumstances. Roy knows the club and many of the players well, and has a wealth of experience. But I'm not sure I feel any more confident of staying up now than I did before, and feel we might as well have stuck with Vieira until the summer as do this. Roy is a good man though and the club clearly means a lot to him. He deserves our support, and will want to end his managerial career on a high note by keeping us up. Let's just hope there is such thing as an old manager bounce!

We’re not a Premiership club with this backward, cost-saving mentality. Roy will not inspire the players and we are now odds on relegated. The bottom half of the table are now all pi$$ing themselves laughing and celebrating. Thanks Steve Parish you cheap skate. Edited by NE14T (21 Mar 2023 10.59am)

We were promised a brave new world by the Chairman We failed to attract a manager who would buy onto this and ended up with one who was 3rd maybe 4th choice. We failed to back said manager and he hit a dry patch. So we cut him off at the knees and re appoint a manager who is well past his sell by date that screams of a lack.of any thought or ambition. But hey we have wasted and continue to waste a fortune on a shiny new edifice to Parish in a stand which we will not need in the lower divisions. But Parish did save the club so who am I to say he seems now hopelessly out of date and out of his depth?

This move isn’t without precedent, W Ham sacked Moyes, then went for Pellegrini who failed and they brought Moyes back.
