One win would make such a difference. Yesterday's finale was tragic. The game plan to stop at source the supply line from crosses worked well. But then that careless loss of possession from Ayew gave Brentford the time and space to deliver that ball to the far post. An even bigger shame given that I thought Ayew had a very good game up until then. Brentford are a difficult opponent that better teams than Palace have struggled to cope with. While there were positive signs and performances yesterday, I fail to see what Mateta brings to the party. I've really had enough of seeing this imposter play.

Mark Warburton has said that he never looks at the possession stats, just the number of chances his team create. Lack of creativity yesterday, 25% possession and only 1 effort on target against Brighton, recent sub-standard performances, suffice to say the 'Direction of travel' is far from encouraging. Quite. Whilst you can look at points accrued to date and say we should have enough to stay up, you also have to consider the trajectory we are moving in. There was an encouraging period from the end of August to the end of October when we played 9 games ( in the league) out which we won 4, drew 2, and lost 2, from which we gained 15 points. Now if that run had been recent, and our poor form earlier in the season, then I don't think any of us have much concern.

I thought 4-4-2 looked far better overall yesterday although at times it did revert more to a 4-5-1 so was defensively minded which is understandable away from home. The worry is that Mateta doesn’t ever look like scoring a goal and when you pair him with another striker in Ayew who also doesn’t score goals then you know you are in for troublesome times. You look back at goals scored and the last 3 have been free kick by midfielder, header by centre half and header by midfielder. Whilst it’s good to see goals coming from other positions on the pitch I’d be a lot happier if our forwards could find the net once in a while. Not sure of the stats but I reckon our centre forwards must have the lowest goal per game ratio of any team in the league.

The paucity of goals from our forwards is highly likely to continue, with the exception of Zaha contributing in bursts every now and then. To win games we will have to be defensively solid and hope that if we do score we manage to hold on as we look vulnerable in the closing minutes of games - and not just yesterday. I’m not that confident we will go two ahead in many games. I think we could be closer to the bottom 3 than many on here think, but believe we will scrape enough points to live another day. I agree with the general thrust of your sentiments. 'Fault lines' have developed and all the positivity and optimism of last season has dissipated, replaced with concern for our prospects in the PL. Goals win games and when one's recognised strikers, Ayew, Eduoard ad Mateta cannot hit a cow's rump with a banjo and there is a vulnerability and a frailty in the dying embers of a game this is concerning.

The game seemed to follow the trajectory of most of our games with Brentford, that being both defences performing admirably and the two teams largely cancelling each other out. Although frustrating for us, a draw was a fair reflection of the game with neither team really creating much. Not sure where 6 minutes came from, but I reckon they just make it up. Big pluses were Andersen, who was MotM for me, Eze's cameo and a solid performance from Lokonga on his debut. Ahamada looked lively if a bit headless. Mateta was all huff and no puff again. Schlupp jogged around the pitch like someone who couldn't remember where he'd parked his car. His lack of involvement was possibly why he wasn't subbed, as Vieira didn't notice he was playing.

As well as Anderson played I’m pretty sure a minute or so of extra time was attributed to him feigning cramp and then refusing to get up. You could see the ref was not happy and the third official obviously added time accordingly. Small issue you might think but we would all have been happier if it was 4 minutes extra time.

I had no problem with the extra 6 minutes. Lots of substitutes a goal and Mitchell getting injured plus Andersen time wasting I think that was fair.

Yes, I can never quite understand feigning injury in added time when you are hanging on to a slender lead and you know the ref. will just add more time. I thought it at the time when Andersen was down with his "injury" thinking just get up and get on with it.

Every team time wastes and it's really annoying, but Andsersen was down for no more than a minute tops and we hardly dragged out throw-ins or goal-kicks. I still think the WC got it right. It seems weird to me that the PL don't want to adopt the same model, as it is the only fair way to do it otherwise teams will always try and waste time knowing much of it isn't added on. Having said all that, adding 6 minutes when there were no long stoppages yesterday was not reflective of the time being added to other PL games I've seen of late. I'm not blaming it for the draw, but I just question it is all.

I was focusing on Schlupp yesterday. He seems to lock himself into his comfort-zone. Where he walks, jogs or pointing/directing with his arms. No assistance for defense, no assistance for our "strikers". How the gaffer can continue with him in midfield is beyond me (and I presume many more Palace fans).
