Moving very slowly or not at all, and looking bewildered. the new Benteke Richards, was our outstanding man for me. The performance , was hard working ,and lucky, that’s football. But surely credit where credits due, three games with a very good side that sits third in the table, and three nil nils, that must take more than luck to achieve?

Given our resources and recent form, to come away with a point against a top 4 team should be viewed as a good result. Newcastle are a physical, resilient team but it says a lot about the quality, or lack of, in the EPL this season that they are where they are in the table. On our side, I thought Richards put in another good shift. Guehi was also on his game. And Guaita was sound. If we were going to concede it would have been down our right where Ward was constantly being skinned, but Newcastle's lack of goals came into play, they couldn't make the most of their opportunities. As for our so called strikers, one decent effort between them over the course of 90 minutes is just not enough. Mateta is out of his depth at this level. Edouard, well there's a player in there but I think he struggles with the intensity of the game. Let's hope we have signed some reinforcements by the Utd game.

Guieta played well today, no mistakes. Ward was too slow today, but played well when the opponent was close to goal. Totally agree with the switch to Clyne when ASM came on. Richards was outstanding. I was worried about him after he was forced on at Man City. Looked like a deer in headlights for that game. Wednesday and today have totally changed my opinion. Wish he would have scored with the open header. Guehi and Mitchell had good games. Mitchell has a little bit of a nasty side to him now, which is a good thing, annoys the winger. Decoure will get to 10 yellows, but that’s fine. Unlike Lukas they’re generally ones (like this game) which are team tackles and not near out box. Agree with everyone here - Hughes must start over Schluppy. Schlupp can only pass backwards these days, reminds me of Ledley’s last season. Ayew played well. His usual dogged self. Wilf is still our best player. Gets me to stand up every time he has the ball in the opponents half. Hope he’s back after the break. Edouard was terrible today. I’ve always thought he was underated, but maybe I’m wrong. Every time he had the ball, even in space, he gave it to Newcastle. His worst game in a Palace shirt by far. Starting to think Eze is overrated. Can’t remember him doing much of anything, not just in this game, but at least since the WC break. Mateta looked good when he was on. Pope made an outstanding save. Also vital on Newcastle corners. Edited by Daddyorc (22 Jan 2023 11.30am)

Zaha of late, like Eze, is flattering to deceive and has been totally effective.Even when in a good central position running clear towards goal (Man Utd and Newcastle) he has been caught and has not even got a shot away. Apropos the Pope save, I understand the lauding of the goalkeeper however some might conclude it was a "Nice height for a keeper".

Agree with all your other comments and given Mateta's lack of game time this season, I thought he gave a solid cameo at both ends of the pitch last night - Bentekesque in defending corners and one might want to add Bentekesque at the other end as well.

I understand the criticism labelled at Eduoard and Mateta but with the lack of creativity in the team, Kane would struggle to score goals for our club. Our "Flair" players Zaha and Eze have been disappointing and ineffective and yesterday with Olise not starting we had no attacking threat whatsoever down our right flank.Dan Burn must have been delighted when he saw our line-up. There was positivity amongst our supporters with our change of style following the end of the Hodgson era but alas we have gone backwards and there is precious little to be excited above when we watch our beloved team.

A welcome point, but the reality is that we had only one shot on target, ironically the best of the day, well saved by Pope. Richards with the header over the bar was next closest. In the meantime they peppered our box with crosses and only some lame finishing stopped a certain loss. I think if the situation was reversed we would be cursing our finishing.

Every time we play Newcastle now all I can think is, thank god we're not them. I write about Saud Arabia for work occasionally and they have done an amazing job at putting a positive spin on their attempts to diversify their economy, while at the same time executing people for insane reasons to get there. Such as the man who refused to leave his home to make way for one of their mega city projects; rather than forcibly move him they went to an even greater extreme and ordered his execution. The day PIF completed their takeover of Newcastle 'The Kingdom' executed a record 81 people in one day for a variety of reasons, many of which would make you say "What?!!" So yes, Newcastle might get CL football. They might win a cup. But I'd rather struggle on as we are if the alternative is being owned by a country that would kill its own citizens rather than let them speak up. Jason Tindal can cup his ears all he wants, they're still a billionaire's Burnley built on blood money.

No creativity at all - we have only scored 6 goals in our last 10 games in all competitions and we have not scored in 6 of those matches.
