I have just read that we have failed to score in 8 of our 18 games this season.
This means that that in nearly half of our games we have had no chance of winning with a goalless draw the best outcome achievable.
Since we rarely keep a clean sheet , even that is a tall order.
It reinforces the need to address this area through more penetrating play and /or new signings.
Ayew, Eze and Olise will not get the necessary goals, Vieira does not seem to have confidence in Edouard and Mateta.
This means (as usual) we are overly reliant on Zaha, but this is a risky game as he is not a great goal scorer even if he is a great player.

The performance was ok today, but it's another game without a goal from us.
We've only managed to score in one of our last five league games.
Can anybody honestly say this way of playing will produce goals on a regular basis?
Even the game we scored in, both goals were created from set pieces rather than in open play and in fairness were due to terrible defending from Bournemouth which would be unlikely to occur with other Premier League clubs we face.
I'm not being negative but just looking at the facts.
We need to create more and be more clinical and I'm not sure I can see this happening with our current playing methods.

If we don’t bring in a minimum of two (CM and RB) then there is a very strong chance we get relegated this season.

Relegation immediately means a loss around £40m in TV revenue even with parachute payments AND bouncing straight back up. A £20m CM and £10m RB in the window solves the issue.

No chance, haven't you heard ? our ills, according to SP, are all going to be solved by a couple of loans, lol.

Which is all fine and good. First task is to motivate a good few number of players who are currently doing the bare minimum, first and foremost your future Ballon D'Or winner. It's quite something to figure out how he manages to not get involved or make himself available for the pass, or to track his opponent.

We effectively play without a midfield so no defensive cover and no service to front line. For some reason last summer Palace signed a bunch of players but ignored the midfield, except the Koyate out Decoure in. Why do one or two of the U21 or Academy midfield players not get a chance..has worked in the past and it works for other clubs

Its much less likely than people think for academy players to make it to elite level only 0.5% of 16 years olds actually go on to make elite level players according to statistics!

Because the gulf is huge. John-Kymani Gordon was on the bench a few times and got a lot of notice with all his goals in PL2. But in reality he's just gone to a League 2 side, so is he really going to do what Olise can't? I think Gordon, Rak Sakyi, Ebiowei and Plange are those closest to the periphery, and none of their loan moves have been to anyone of any real standard. Plange & Ebiowei should have gone back to Derby for the season in my opinion. Honestly don't know what the best case scenario is expected for Plange out in Belgium or wherever it is. I know there's the Textor connection, but this is a young lad at a crucial age, trying to grind out a career. Feels like he's just wasted a year of his life to help some connections, while there are probably another 30 players of his age in his position with his ability who have moved forward this season.

Not sure it matters who PV selects as whoever it is we still won’t play with a balanced midfield where they support the defence, fight / win it in the middle and supply our attack. It’s chaotic in the middle with square pegs in round holes :-( We played the worst Chelsea team in many a year where most premiership teams other than us would have beat them today :-(

The work-ethic of the Newcastle midfield is exemplary indeed their work rate across the board is impressive.Newcastle have only conceded 2 goals in their last 10 PL games.

I think for us, at least... we were very good at finding young talent, producing or luring in. But, times have changed and the standard now is much higher.

In my time, Dyer was the first and he was a young lad we snapped up. Armstrong, too.
Producing Ndah, Boxall, Watson, the overly hyped Williams, we've always loved an underdog youth player - taking in Morrison from spurs and giving them a chance as an example.

It's gone cold of late, but this is the thing, we are in the prem now, producing talent for the championship is one thing, producing talent to walk straight into the prem... it's rare - they need time to learn the trade and blood and that's often lower leagues.

That's why I would rather us use the prem money for the academy, and use that for our squad and a yo yo team. I haven't enjoyed this decade more than the last...

Ah, the example where a mis-firing forward was converted into an energetic ball-winning midfielder.

Glad it worked for them, if not us.
