On the coach on the way back... Absolutely awful. I don't care what people said about Leicester last week this was worse. The Wolves result masked another poor performance where Wolves really should of been 3-0 up at half time.

I say it every week it feels like but I stand by what I say.. If we are going to start with players like Luka, Ayew and Ward then we are bang in trouble. All 3 of those are Championship players at best and only half decent ones.

What on earth has happened to Mitchell?? Unless he can see the easy pass to Zaha he is totally lost.. We have not progressed from last season. We've gone backwards.

The most frustrating thing about today is we played an Everton side who have struggled since the day Lampard took over and they didn't even need to get out of second gear.

To be perfectly honest I have never rated Mitchell as highly as others and I was flabbergasted when he was called up by England. He is still young of course and a 'Work in progress' but he is has not made any progress in recent times in actual fact he has regressed.

This is not particularly surprising.
Well before the end of last season I expressed concern that CG would not be with us for this season, and he being head and shoulders above what we had at that particular time, led me to think that unless we invested in adequate replacements, particularly given that McArthur is at the end of his PL career and injury prone, and Kouyate released, then we would be thin in a critical area on the pitch. So it has proved, despite the tremendous efforts of Doucoure, who I rate highly. His omission today proved how inadequate our planning and player acquisition has been for this season.
We are a worse side this season than last, mainly because we didn't replace in key areas, and also because of Vieira's lack of tactical ability to adjust to the changes from last season.

This was entirely my view.
Doucoure has been a fine acquisition but alas Miliviojevic, Hughes and Riedewald are not up to the job and MacArthur is well into his 30s and injury prone.

Milivojevic given a starting birth was ridiculous, I have lost all faith in him.
Poor team selection from Vieira.

I disagree, but only because if Luka had Hughes and Reidewald alongside him then our midfield would have been stronger. Perhaps even Schlup in place if one of them. Not saying that’s a strong midfield but it’s not full of players like Ayew, Olise, Eze or Zaha who just aren’t midfielders. Vieira is picking just one known midfielder and it just won’t work and the midfield will be overrun. Even with Dacoure back for next game we will still only have one midfielder that can play in the middle. The balance will just not be there. It’s not rocket science ;-)

I wish people would stop defending Luka. The bloke is clearly not good enough and that is putting it mildly. He has been 5 yards off the pace for well over 2 years and offers zero to the team. It’s a f***ing disgrace our recruitment has resulted in a 1 man midfield. Absolutely no coincidence that the game he’s suspended for ends up in a thumping.

I’m only defending him because to single him out today isn’t fair. Every player from 1-11 was woeful…yet it’s fashionable to single him out. Where’s the hate for Mitchell or Guehi (at fault for first) or Zaha or anyone else?

He’s an easy scape goat.

Agreed, there was a lot going wrong with other players including the manager than just Luka today

I have articulated my concern about the vitriol aimed at Luka before and whilst I retain that stance, especially in light of what I perceive to be his massive contribution to us being a PL team still despite worse days, I think there’s a difference between subjective ire aimed at him and objective criticism of his inclusion in our team. The problem is it’s the whole midfield atm:

Hughes: Probably not good enough
Riedewald: Probably not good enough
Luka: Almost definitely not good enough these days
Doucoure: Great player but new to league and not 3 players
McArthur: Injured and at the end of his career
Eze: A luxury player and perhaps needs the function with him to justify his inclusion
Olise: not a central midfielder
Schlupp: not a central midfielder
Ayew: definitely not a central midfielder

It’s fair to say Luka’s inclusion in an XI is worrying but I think perhaps this is exacerbated by, and only worsens, a worrying situation. The ‘beef’ is probably far more to do with us not having resourced that area of the pitch effectively prior to this season starting and that chicken coming home to roost, exhibited painfully today.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

For me this has been brewing for some time, PV's tactics are dodgy..

The lack of hunger in the semi final last year with the dodgy set up in tactics with Ward being put into RB over NC only then to have CK constantly moving across in front of JW to cover him even though Chelsea were just as s*** as us the first half.. He didnt even see that and try to adjust the plan..

Arsenal: The team still had the mentality they could beat them we started slow but the 2nd half was good we were all over them.

Liverpool: they go down to 10 men looking weak and he still continued to play the team deep and not go after the win

City: played deep went 2 up but continued to keep them very deep and not allow them to express themselves, tried to hold on for the draw. But its City so let that slide..

Brentford: All over them went 1 up. 67 mins in against a team we are in charge off and likely will get another goal. He switches RB over to LB, moves RB in RM brings on LB along with CM to try to see out the draw.. Tactical shambles..

Chelsea: 1-1 sits us deep and they score 90min

Leeds: felt like a battle

Leicester: shambolic lucky not to lose

Wolves: Ref makes dodgy calls, fans fired up, team get fired up and feel to prove something 2nd half.
Post match Wilf asked if the words of PV are ringing in his ears from half time, he replies no he doesn't get like that.

For me what's he bringing?
its a Dougie Freedman team with OR calling the tactics.
Thought he would be the one to get them going but he backs down every time..

No one here hates Milo. He’s been a great player and loyal servant. The frustration lies when we see Veira play him isolated at central midfield. Everyone knows that’s going to be disastrous and ripple through the team. At the very least he needed Hughes in support but for some reason Veira and that waste of space Roberts don’t see it.
Incredibly frustrating and this isn’t hindsight as we all shuddered when team and Milo position was announced.
If Veira has ambitions about managing Arsenal he’s utterly deluded as he’s proving tactically poor. His big + is attracting players but that doesn’t make a summer.

Roberts has got to stop being such a lame duck yes man and start helping Veira with better decisions.

People aren't singling him out. Nobody has said that everybody else was decent because that clearly wasn't the case. But Luka has been consistently crap for quite some time now and is nowhere near good enough for Premiership football.

I've seen plenty of other players on this thread being criticised for their performance today.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
