Those MOTD highlights were awful. Editor is clearly a Newcastle fan. Made them look completely dominant for most of the game which was not the case. Not a single mention of palace in the post match analysis. Not sure why I bothered watching to just hear Alan moan. Predictable

But they didn't so we can move on.

If you want to quote me , quote the context. This was a remark on "if Newcastle had had any quality" or similar - just a rather more specific restatement of that. Both goalkeepers played well today and both sides can look back on chances they really should have converted. For a much more expensive side NUFC seemed more dependent on defensive errors and created less than Palace I thought. Overall we were probably better in attack than against Brentford - just no Zaha magic moment. OK, so we needed the fickle Mr Mason with us today but he was and overall a well earned away point that wouldn't have been counted on before the game.

Ayew always put in a good shift, but why can't he sometimes look up and pass the bl...y ball? Olise on the right wing any game for me.
And what has happened to the guy that scored twice in 7-8 minutes on his debut against Spurs? Edouard is now looking more like Benteke on one of his (many) off-days.

No you are right, opportunities are not the problem, it is putting them in the net that is. We have scored 7 goals in league matches, 4 by Wilf, an own goal and just two by the rest of the team.

Yes, the keeper saved well today but how often are we going to hear the same story rather than he finished it well. We need a forward who when faced with half a chance, buries it. I quite like both Edouard and Mateta but neither finishes like say Murray or Andy Johnson. Maybe they don’t exist any more for less than £50m.

There’s one in the juniors shaping up. He’s called Gordon.

It's retaining the ability to be objective, despite personal allegiances. Of course I'm relieved, but not going to view a stroke of good fortune as an achievement.

Newcastle had their own stroke of good fortune last season when they were losing matches hand over fist and were favourites for relegation but they were saved by covid when they had to postpone a few games (including against us) until after January by which time they had strengthened their team

We had lots of possession in the game, but that can be misleading because much of it was across the back 4 or passing backwards rather than passing with purpose.
On the positive side Doucoure plays with his head up and often makes a constructive first forward pass.
Thereafter it breaks down - Schlupp and Ayew play with their heads down and are difficult to build combination play through.
Along with Eze they can have a tendency to run into cul de sacs.
The result of this is that moves frequently break down before they get started after the initial promising pass by Doucoure.
This also applies to the full backs who for all their defensive qualities are not progressive looking to build moves down their sides of the field.
The moves breaking down inevitably leads to a build up of pressure on our own defence.
This was particularly evident in the latter stages of the Brentford game and against Newcastle.
It has also been evident in stages (unsurprisingly) against Arsenal, City and Liverpool.
This is not a criticism of the players concerned , but in my view we have to find a way of improving our combination play and also avoid the sloppiness in the final third when promising positions are squandered through lack of precision in the final ball.
We have shown we are capable of it - think Mateta’s goal v Villa.

Actually thats a really good selling point for the Palace TV package, getting to see a lot of the U18 & U21 games, I am feeling a lot more connected with the players we have coming through & its good seeing how they progress through the season & for those lucky few into the first team.

First time I have been to Newcastle in a while. Palace support was amazing- but we were so far away from the pitch! Tried our best to support the team.

One thing I noticed about their fans is the intensity they portray during a game. I kid you not, every touch, decision, tackle are contested, screaming, shouting, on their feet, pointing fingers, aggression - all age groups guilty!

I was thinking- what must it be like for our players on the pitch! On many occasions, I saw them look at the crowd in disbelief. They received a verbal bashing throughout the game. Yes, I know they are professional players - but humans as well.

Not making excuses, but I feel the reason for some players having an off day was due to the above.

Again, I could be off the mark here, but just my observations.

Stand out player for me was Ayew!

Thanks you have saved me the trouble. Thought it would be a Shearer me,tdown but surely Palace warranted some recognition? Not the first time, can’t be bothered with MOTD now

What the hell does "puts in a good shift mean" he is an attacker and in his last 76 games he has 4 goals and seven assists, absolutely pathetic.

Eze although being played in the wrong position has 3 assists in 6 games this season
