unlucky against arse and rode our luck this one , i did call a draw same start as last season so ok , we didnt look comfortable on the ball alot so hopefully they start believing in there self's , Richards looked good but hard to tell as he come on late ,

I didn't think we'd get anything with the 5 across the back formation but all credit to the team they worked their socks off. Andersen took a cue from Liverpool's dark arts which made up for some of their more dubious body-checks. Lets be honest, we were lucky and if they still had our nemesis, Sadio Mane, I am sure we would have lost. I am fed up with the moaning about Eze and Zaha being profligate, there combination got us the point. Great to have a brief look at Chris Richards and fantastic to have Olise causing havoc in his short cameo. The new 'let the game flow' rules take some getting used to ! I can see why PV is giving Edouard a go but surprised he didn't swap positions with Zaha. The only disappointment was Schlupp, I don't see the point.

I thought Hughes fought well when he came on and looked reasonably calm on the ball. Milo is I am afraid finished at this level. Clyne and Mitchell are not wing backs. Ayew will be a liability with the new rules which stop him picking up fouls. Please don’t play 5 at the back any more, we look better with a defensive midfielder in front of a back 4.

A point, that's all that's worth saying bout the gane, well done Roy, good diguise mate. Might save us from relegation or get us into Europe though.

Excellent result. If Mane were still there, we could have been 3-0 down after 20 minutes. As hard as we defended, Liverpool simply couldn't hit the target. With that luck, however, we took advantage and played excellent football the rest of the way – given that we were at Anfield, and it was our 2nd match of the season. Well played.

Not the 1-2 win for us I predicted but it's great to end that run of 10 straight defeats against them (and to be out of the bottom 3 at Everton's expense). Interesting from PV that he didn't want to change the formation after the sending off - a case of a bird in the hand I suppose.

Richards looked good in the air which is one of his key stats from bundesliga. Promising. Olise’s cameo was a major positive Ayew will need to adjust his game as it’s not so easy to win fouls now, I love this free flowing prem football again. Two great goals, a good result and hopefully a lift for the villa game. Keeping the ball better in the midfield is the challenge for Vieira to solve
