They have called our bluff. Asked us to match Bournemouth and the player decides but as usual no reaction from us. Our so called interest is just fan appeasement by SP Very true and it would be so surprising for there to be ANY signings before window closes in a few days.

Signed for Bournemouth tonight for £9M down. We were apparently looking to hijack the deal if of course this is true. Hijackers, not front runners. Do we actually have a recruitment plan; is our scouting network more than YouTube? It doesn’t seem so.

We were supposed to have been interested in this guy since at least last season, if so who did the hijacking?

I contacted some learned gentleman last night and he asserted that a deal at Bournemouth had not been concluded. He also mentioned that the club had signed goalkeeper Darren Randolph from W.Ham.

It could be that Palace scouted this player without following up with a bid as they decided he wasn’t for them. The player wants a move. Bournemouth come in and then the players agent lets it be known that the player would prefer a move to London. I think if there was a genuine interest in this player, we would be making a move for him. Alternatively, we are so skint that even a relatively modest fee is beyond us

Alternatively, we are so skint that even a relatively modest fee is beyond us I think once again we're in agreement but for what it's worth I have had it confirmed by someone in the business that the reason so many deals happen on deadline day, at the very last minute, is that in the January window, agents generally discourage their clients (players) from accepting any offer until the very last minute in the hope that a bigger club or better offer may yet come in. So it may be that we've put a few feelers out there that for now act as statements of intent, but serious negotiations simply will not start happening until after the weekend when the landscape for all players and moves becomes clearer as the deadline approaches. I think we WILL bring in one or two before the window closes though who they are and whether they're loans or buys I have no idea. I think failure to do anything at all in this window will seriously jeopardise PV's faith in the board and thus, ultimately, his tenure as manager. I am not sure the board, with its back against the wall, will allow that to happen and risk PV leaving in the summer. But that's just my guess.

For the modest fee of c.£9m he looks like a decent gamble. Strong, powerful and direct. Feel like directness is an attribute our forward pack are missing. All talented, but all like a touch and some time. I wonder if the Wilf injury will force the hand a little

It’s your guess Syd, it’s my hope. More quiet strong claims from Turkey, that Mateta, is agreeable to a move to Galatasary, today. If true and Palace agree , surely at least two should be coming in. The logic behind my guess, for what it's worth, is that Harris and Blitzer are hugely successful and highly intelligent investors. If they want to sell their shares in Palace, and it appears that they do, possibly even quickly, then they will know that to do so, the asset (club) needs to be in as operationally stable and financially strong a position as possible. I get that they might not ideally want to put money into the playing squad right now, but in my view they will not risk their asset sliding dangerously down the table or losing what appears to be a highly competent manager simply for the sake of a few million quid that they will recoup to some extent or other in the sale anyway. In short, Harris and Blitzer, in my view, have more to lose by not bringing in a couple of players than they have to gain by standing still. That's why I'm reasonably confident we'll see some incomings by Tuesday.
