Possibly the most important win of the season and much deserved. Had us down for at least a point last night and we looked more fluid than we have been for a while. Can’t help looking back at points dropped when being in winning or drawing positions. If they were all capitalised on we would be 4th in the table! Can’t help thinking those injuries and players away to the AFCON really did for us and completely derailed our rhythm.

We played with bite and hunted in packs when we lost the ball. Our forwards also all worked hard and tracked back to support the defence. Watford's forwards offered little support and drifted in and out of the game, Sarr in particular. Roy would have known all too well that you need keep Wilf's side of the pitch well protected so he must be so pi$$ed that Sarr disappeared. I'm really happy with the win. We seemed to go much more direct and to be honest did hit a lot of aimless long balls and I think we didn't need to play well for the win, we just had to work hard for it. At this stage of the season that'll do for me. Wilf once again worked hard and was rewarded with two goals. His comments after the game suggest he knows he's getting stick and maybe that's why for the last few games he hasn't risen to the fouling. On that front, Mariner seemed to let a lot go and the Palace players were getting quite wound up by it. In the tunnel at half time you could see Hughes berating the fourth official.

Think we have found our best back 4 now with Clyne in for Ward. Fully agree. After a shaky start he looked much more assured than Wardy has all season. Still has enough pace too for an old pro.

Regarding crosses from set pieces. We seem to have no idea. Man marking looks a bit of a shambles. If they can't do it properly then training them to zonal mark might be the solution. If they don't get it right for the Burnley game...and they've got a lot of height in that team. Time for the defence coach to earn his corn.

What do you expect him to say? Roy is new to the squad, and he must express belief in them in order to instill confidence. In fact, Mateta's goal took a lucky deflection, and if Wilf hadn't finished so clinically (somewhat unusual for him) the final score might have been 1-1. Sure, we outplayed them and deserved to win, but most good coaches in Roy's situation would have said almost exactly what he said. If some fans had their way he’d be another one sacked - already ! Someone talked about Sarr - he walked straight off the pitch literally after the final day whistle. Probably summed up where his head was - you handled him well We just didn’t lay a glove on you once the 2nd went in. Did Butland have a save to make ?

The Role of a CF in a 4-3-3 is too hold the ball, lay it off, and get into decent positions in the box, not to try dribbling or lose possession, that is what Mateta does Adequately, that is why PV picks him, Edouard for all his quality's doesn't do that.

We should be attacking like that all the time not keep playing slow ball and going back to keeper Edited by grumpymort (23 Feb 2022 9.23pm) Anyone could have finished! You really are a clown, still you are the poster that called his goal at Norwich a fluke, so no surprises I suppose.
