The situation regarding Ward Simply baffles me.
We bought Ward to replace Clynne (sold)
We put AWB in the first team for ward, because ward was injured.
We sell AWB (better than Ward) and buy Clynne, this time to replace AWB.
Clynne loses place to Ward, who we buy Ferguson for hasnt played a full game in two years nearly.

So back to ward again a player we originally bought 3 right backs ago 10 years ago !!

Anyone who thinks that good business needs their bumps felt.

Ward is lovely bloke and a great servant for the club, of that there is no doubt. But .....anyone with a modicum of pace has him up all day long, and after last night it would appear his delivery into the box as an attacking right back ( as PV plays that way ) was bloody woeful.

Compare that to our LB Mitchell who is another Ashley Cole in the making, he was simply superb last night and for me was MOTM.

The fist 30 mins was dire, exactly as it was against Scumwall, then it was one way traffic, and but for a fluke of a penalty miss we would have had three points.

Still not convinced with Mateta he had few opportunities against a shambolic defence, would've much rather seen benteke as the focal point, as Mateta seems incapable of holding the ball up.

Over all C+ much room for improvement.

Oh and whats the crack with Wickham.V2 is he ever going to play ?

I think with Ward, he's Proven himself to be a reliable RB. We Brought NF to replace AWB, He should have made it, but for some reason we bought him injured...that was bad Business, but Clyne wasn't - and he wasn't bought to replace AWB. NF was. but as he Was never fit, Ward got the nod.
I think we All hoped Clyne would return and be Refreshed and boss It, but he hasn't, so again, back comes Mr Reliable.

He needs replacing now, and it's ourlast chance - He can't keep going on at this level and really needs a replacement.

On Mateta - and I only have the Extended Highlights to go on, generally impressed with him over the last few games, can finish, and has strength, but he's another Batshuahi...forever offside. He needs to cut that out.

Our Main problem thought is that We do not play in the 1st half of Games. I don't really understand that. We're always better in The 2nd half. Smells like there isn't a plan until PV has had a chance to see how the oppo are playing that day...

1 point is a disappointing return given how we dominated possession.

I think if Wilf had scored with the pen we would have gone on to win comfortably.

We need to start winning games to avoid being drawn into the dog fight at the bottom end of the table. Hopefully the return of Kouyate and Jimmy Mac will enable us to get those wins.

Norwich played the Roy style, defend in numbers make it hard for the opposition to score. We just couldn’t break them down, as we moved the ball forward too slowly, so they had time to get in position.
Many times under Roy, we won with less than 30% possession.

Ward's age let him down last night and he is no longer quick enough either in mind or body for the Premier League in my opinion.
He will have good games and he has been amazing for us over the years but the time has come the Walrus said.............
We fought our way back into the game and ruled the roost for the main part but we huff and puff but do not have that cutting edge needed when it comes down to it.
I don't mind as we are a way better side than we were a year ago - it is just frustrating to think how many points we have let go this season.
We didn't lose though and despite other posters thoughts on this forum I was delighted to see Wilf back and thought he did okay and in amongst that he scored a worldie.
Penalty misses happen - I do not blame him at all - it happens.
We need to come good at Brentford on Saturday because I believe that when we translate possession into goals that the rest of the season will be a blast!

We are a team in transition, look at Brighton last season, everyone complimented them on their style of play, but this year it’s clicked for them.

Viera knows what the issues are so is well placed to address them

Wilf and Viera obviously have a good relationship, maybe he can ring Wilf back out of his shell

We've got more strength an depth than I can ever remember (in most departments) so we can start playing players in form vs best team on paper

Norwich are on a good run at the moment, they would have been targeting Palace at home as a must win game - and they didn't

Very true, looking at the subs bench I couldn't see any weaknesses. We have good cover throughout. I agree with many that Joel is slow but that goes with his age and build, is Nat Clyne going to be better though? I think not and we do need cover in the summer. Where is Ferguson.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

I think this is my overriding sentiment at this time... so of course agree.

We obviously need to avoid relegation but at least we seem to be paving a way forward now that can raise hopes (Style/effectiveness/progression as club and team)! I thought this was the primary gripe of the Hodgson reign?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

A replacement for Ward is a top priority in the summer and might of even been looked at in January as he has struggled with speedy wingers all season, Leeds and West Ham being examples. Luckily that Rashica did not play at Selhurst, may of been injured ? Without the likes of Ayew playing he is a busted flush in that area. Even with an attacker willing to help out at the back we will be pushed back on that wing and is a short term answer to this weakness.

Actually ward was out run in much of the 1st half but completely neutralised his.man in the 2nd half thereby cutting out their only creative threat and leading us to dominate a game we should have won.

Slow but quietly classy through experience.

Agree Mitchell MOTM. That twit Allen gave it to a player who was good for half an hour of the 1st half but anonymous in the whole 2nd half. Mitchell brilliant throughout as was Guehi.

If Guehi was so good, why wasn’t he anywhere near Pukki, when he scored? Mitchell had a far better game with at least 2 goal saving interception in front of goal, where Guehi, should of been.
Guehi looks good with the ball at his feet, but his defending needs to improve.

I thought Guehi was the best player on the pitch by a distance - I’d have to watch it back but I don’t remember him being particularly at fault for the goal.

It was the 14th time this season that Guehi has finished a game without losing a single duel (aerially or on the ground). According to WhoScored, he’s only been dribbled past 0.1 times per 90 mins this season, or once every 10 games.

How much better can you defend?

Echo the comments about how good the support was last night despite the early setback particularly the younger fans who made a lot of noise and really got behind the team.

With regard to game itself I thought once again we recycled the ball way too many times and showed a lack of courage / conviction when we had the ball in the final third.

The subs left us looking lightweight at the business end of the game and we completely lost our momentum at a point when we were dominating. Never thought I’d be bemoaning Mateta being taken off but he put himself about and showed good strength at times.

Having watched the highlights I think it”s disappointing that they scored when we had so many players in our box irrespective of Ward’s contribution.

Norwich are poor but credit to Dean Smith who’s organised them well IMO.

From my view sitting behind the goal in the Whitehorse, his marking can be a bit slack, Anderson too, I think they’re both better footballers with the ball at their feet than they are at actually defending. But I suppose it’s all part of us being a better footballing side, we’ve had to sacrifice a bit of tightness at the back to have a couple of central defenders who can play a bit

We tried quite hard to get Max Aarons last time Norwich went down, which on the other night's showing was a good call. We might get a better response if they go down again.
