It's not an obsession, it is an observation and criticism. Whether you accept it or not, it is a major factor in many of our current problems. That is not my invention.

You should talk about obsession. You are still whining a did bout Brexit on every thread.

Oh, it's an obsession. I am not the first to have noticed it. You demonstrate it again with the assertion it's "a major factor in many of our current problems", when it clearly isn't. Immigration didn't bring about Covid, or make it worse. Indeed, without the overseas nurses and doctors in the NHS we would be much worse off. Immigration didn't create the difficulties we have with the Brexit agreement. Poor negotiating skills did that. Immigration wasn't responsible for us having a buffoon as PM. Xenophobia did that.

I am far from obsessed about Brexit. I couldn't care less about it. I am obsessed about the damage such stupidity has done, and will continue to do, to our country and am determined not to allow that to disappear from our focus, so we know where to place the blame, and what needs to be done to repair things.

But it doesn't work the other way? Did you argue that we should check if we were still OK in the EU?

40 years we were denied a vote by the major parties even though the EU changed out of all recognition from the Common Market. you weren't complaining then even though the EU was not what we signed up for.

Of course not. I have heard that excuse before, and it's nonsense. Such things are decided by Parliament and there has never been a suggestion from them that we ought to come out. The ONLY reason we ended up with a disastrous referendum was Tory selfishness. They were fearful of being torn asunder by UKIP so put Party before country to stop it. That they never expected to lose is no excuse. It was a disgraceful act not worthy of a great party.

Holding a referendum on an issue already decided upon in Parliament was unforgivable.

Thank you for giving me such a laugh on a cold, murky Friday.

Not for many years have I read such a disconnected, desperate, biased and misguided take on Brexit, the referendum, the endorsement in the European Elections and the overwhelming message sent in the 2019 General Election.

That is the view of the committed Brexiteer. A tribe whose numbers are rapidly diminishing.

Says he couldn't care less about Brexit yet can't leave it alone.

That's just dishonest.

BBC are quiet on the latest allegations around Starmer and COVID? Wall to wall about Tory sleaze (fair enough) not so keen on pointing the finger at St Keir.

That which can be done can also be undone. We are just in the turn around and shake it all about phase of a slow moving hokey cokey.

That's just dishonest.

My comments are all about the lack of political morality that resulted in a referendum, the dishonesty of the campaigning, the foreign interference and the failure of the opposition in Parliament to get organised and do their constitutional duty.

As these events resulted in the biggest political disaster of my lifetime I will also comment on how we can recover from it.

You won't read much from me about Brexit itself, the ongoing negotiations, the lack of trade deals, the flight of UK businesses or difficulties with exports and imports and other direct consequences. There's nothing to say. They speak for themselves.

The pretence that everything will work out just fine needs to be continually exposed for the hypocrisy it is. Brexit is now history. All we can do with it is learn from it and never be that stupid again. The primary lesson being that referendums need to be consigned to history too. Unless the events that resulted in it are kept in view that won't happen.

We need to vote in a Parliament with a clear mandate to negotiate a new form of associate membership of the EU. One that will satisfy both the Scots and the Irish and avoid the breakup of the Union. No-one is talking about this yet, but I predict they will. The grass is greener argument cuts both ways.

The EU doesn't want one.

If they had offered some form of partnership but gave us some flexibility in certain areas e.g. immigration then I might even have voted for that.

You complain about what happened in the UK how about pointing the finger at the EU they are just as too blame for their intransigence in allowing a member to leave when they had plenty of opportunities to lance that boil before a referendum was even going to happen.

I don't excuse the EU in also miscalculating or in seeking to make life difficult for us as an example to other waverers.

However, when mutual interests collide ways will be found and as there is an overwhelming need for us to be in the European club I think it will be. What form it will take is an open question but whilst Brexit might be "done" I think it is but another chapter in the saga which is our relationship with our neighbours.

This government will go. The pandemic will end. We will reassess, and move on again. I might not live to see it but we, and the world, face too many big problems to go on squabbling over a common sense arrangement. The political imperatives to do so are just too big to be ignored.

The xenophobes have had their day. Common sense will return.

"The European Club"! Usual squid-ink from Wisbelch.
The EU wants to become and will become a federal state.
They will lose some more members along the way but that is what will happen and of course it will be dominated by Germany and, to a lesser extent, France.
