Panorama looks worth a watch tonight, over 200 companies have located to the E.U, lots more apparently but they have traced 220 odd of those that got back to them, the rest were probably stuck in the removal van at Dover! Yeah, heard about that. 220 are just the numbers who got assistance. There are believed to be a great deal more who went DiY. However, would like to know the real impact on UK jobs, taxes, dependent/symbiotic businesses etc. Thus, if this is just brass plate stuff to get passed some EU regulation (as I understand there is a lot of bureaucratic inertia with EU trade) with no impact on our economy, then so what? Otherwise...

Cogent points. In all the northern economies the state has first and foremost become about welfare...and that's independent of young or old....the state is seen as tax credit or dole payment for the young or the the NHS 'cradle to grave' and pension protector for the older (most now far outlive their contributions). All this money is mostly on the never never.....Of course generations raised like this are going to think that hard physical work is beneath them. This money tree reality of an MMT economy acts as a powerful attractant for immigrants who know that once they have the foot in the door they can benefit as well....if you don't mind the pun. I also do parties.
Do you genuinely believe that a significant number of immigrants - some of whom risk hardship and possibly death to get here - do so to sponge off the welfare state? If you are talking non EU, would they not be better off going to e.g. Scandinavia if that really was their purpose. And given I thought we were discussing EU citizens, do they not come from a country with their own welfare net. As such, what possible advantage could they secure coming from the land and society they know only to claim benefit?

Really how do you build a patio and fencing while posting right wing drivel 24 hours a day on internet forums, simultaneously? Must have a long lead.

Not many would initially, but they know that eventually they will get the same benefits. How can you seriously think otherwise when the NGOs give them leaflets recommending the UK? Many have, however there are attractions to the UK like ready made communities....hell, London screams multinational to them, whereas Scandinavia doesn't have that yet.....also for some speaking English will also attract them. As such, what possible advantage could they secure coming from the land and society they know only to claim benefit? These are lesser attractions for young eastern Europeans, however the safety net is far better than their own once they qualify....they can also send money home....money gone out of the country that a native worker would spend here. Next door to me is a Lithuanian family. He works and has raised his children here, he knows that the welfare system here will provide whereas at home it's far harder, especially when he gets older. Whilst it is good that Nissan are investing and remaining in Sunderland we shouldn't forget that the government are stumping up £120M to keep them sweet.
