Who starts again Ukraine then? For me:

Pickford

Trippier - Stones - Maguire - Shaw

Rice

Mount - Grealish

Saka - Kane - Sterling

Christ it's boring though.
Imagine what a good manager / coach would do with that squad.
Foden on the bench alongside greenish. What a waste.

Same goes for Belgium.
Unbelievable talent hamstrung by an ordinary manager.

Both my papers described the win as 'a masterclass from Southgate'. Who knows best then?

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Fantastic little player. Good to have real ambition on the ball like that considering how tentative some of the team when it's played to them.

Great Win, actually had loads of possession, which I was surprised about.. didnt create much with it. I think we ended with 3 shots on Target?

That's due to the formation, Rice and Phillips protect well, but we need someone who can pass through the lines - not just over the top to Sterling.

With the formation we played, with Trippier/Shaw as WB and KW as pacey Sweeper on the right of Back 3, I was hoping that the WB's would provide width whilst the 2 'wide' men could drift infield and link the DM's with the attack. Felt that while Sako looked lively, he didn't fit this system. Foden would be perfect. so with a little tweak we get for the ukraine;

----------Pickford
---Walker--Stones--McGuire
Trips------------------Shaw
------Rice----Phillips
---Foden---------Sterling
-----------Kane

This formation allows Foden To drop into that No.10 role allowing Sterling/Kane to be a more like a top 2. Mount Or Grealish could also play this role.

Why 2 defensive midfielders and a back 5 against Ukraine?
Risk adverse football again.

I actually think we'll revert back to 4-3-3 for Ukarine - think the wing back system was very much to match up with the Germans, which was the right thing to do.

I expect one of Tripper/Walker to be dropped for Mount, and Grealish/Foden in for Saka for the next game.

Agreed. Also both dm on yellow cards.
Put Bellingham in as dm flat back 4 dropping out trippier ( who got a knock), mount , foden , grealish and sancho in place of saka and Sterling.
Kane up front.
Go for them.

Amazing result and you got to say we look certs to get to the final. However, to me the tactics remain so negative and think we’re underperforming. Let’s be honest, it was an even game which could have gone either way - just before the Sterling goal I was telling my mates we’ve flopped again and Germany will score soon. Luckily we took our chances and they didn’t.

We set up making ourselves hard to beat in the hope that a moment of magic will unlock the defence. There doesn’t appear to be any clear attacking strategy. With the energy and skill of our attackers we really should dominating the ball, swarming all around them like wasps and creating chances galore. It’s a tough watch which it shouldn’t be.

It will be the same against Ukraine, very negative with two defensive midfielders and we’ll win 1-0/2-0 and the media will laud Southgate as the messiah.

Denmark are in an emotional place so they’ll provide a tough test but we should get through.

Hope I’m wrong, but I think both Italy and Belgium will be too much for us in the final, due to our negativity.
