Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

You are full of s***. You lambasted me for speaking out against continued mass immigration because it was a lost cause and here you are whining on about BREXIT. Your hypocrisy is only matched by your capacity for self delusion. Instead of spending your remaining days resisting, why don't you see that both issues are part of the same problem. Britain is being undermined by creeping globalism. Its culture, its sovereignty, everything that we recognize as British. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (05 May 2021 10.05am) The way people like you describe "creeping globalism" as though it's a "thing" that can be contained and managed never fails to amuse me. When will you realise it just isn't. It is simply a reflection of an ever-changing, ever evolving world. Some would call it progress but not all change brings instant benefits. It sometimes takes time for the good to take precedence over the bad and for evolution to work it's magic. The global economy is real. It's an unstoppable tide which cannot be avoided. You either adapt to it or be swamped by it. Politicians who use promises of protecting people from the impact of globalisation as their ladder to power are the worst kind of confidence tricksters. Trump being the most obvious recent example. There is no need at all to assume that either our culture or sovereignty will be damaged by globalisation. We just need to ensure we prepare effectively and assimilate any of our new citizens. Welcoming them, teac ofhing them and not ostracising them is what is required and is actually what is very effectively being done. Often quietly and without any fuss. The short term floods of refugees and/or economic migrants are a difficult and probably insolvable problem that can only be mitigated but never eradicated. It's not really a result of globalisation but more a consequence of wars and poverty. Some level of containment is the best we can hope for which demands a common approach and is another argument for us to have remained a member of the EU. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (05 May 2021 12.21pm)

I would check if a certain poster is a previously banned one. Spiderman reckons Pussay Patrol, I was betting on Nick Gusset. They must love us so much, they can never leave.

I’d put my money on Gusset - same inability to see that there are other equally valid opinions. But could be either. Edited by Helmet46 (05 May 2021 11.19am)

Here’s an example of your caring, sharing EU. Threatening to cut off electricity to an Island in a pandemic. Regardless of whether they will or won’t the rhetoric is fantastic and all in the name of the EU. Imagine if this f***er had the might of an EU Army behind him. God only knows what wholly disproportionate stuff he’d try to do or is an historically weak France simply the little kid standing at the back shouting ‘yeah, get him John’ in a scrap? Obviously we have to honour our agreements and take a look at ourselves but .....
Its a great story and plenty of headlines but nothing will happen. Even the French are not that insane. If they did force EDF (and it would be forced. No utility company in the world, even a state-owned one, would comply without seeing a court order) to do this then the wider ramifications would be horrendous. To be fair to the EU, and that is not something I am fond of doing, I would imagine more than a few heads being shaken in Brussels at the moment. Be interesting to see how the story develops because this woman needs to lose her job asap. Simply unacceptable to make those kinds of threats.

Containment demands a common approach which is another argument for us to have remained a member of the EU. Nothing is unstoppable. There are some aspects of globalism that we all like. Cheap goods and the availability and variety of commodities is certainly something that improves our lives. You have to ask yourself, who exactly will it be who governs our brave new world? If we have these huge blocks of countries increasingly run by decreasingly undemocratic federal governments then what will happen to national culture? National interests? What of the quality of life for the average person? Globalism has come about via the decisions of human beings. You can attach some sort of Darwinian or even Dawkinsian explanation to it if you like but on a political level we are able shift our thinking. We have the ability to recognize that this planet will never be a Star Trekian like place where we all hold hands and that there will be many more losers than winners. Only a huge shift in attitudes will rescue this world from a dire fate which will involve poverty, starvation, overcrowding, conflict and the removal of any sort of even remotely democratic system. Have a nice day. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (05 May 2021 12.40pm)

It is a great story and nothing will happen. But I was rather struck by the rhetoric and how unnecessary it was. I also suspect there were more than a few ‘oh for gods sake’ comments uttered in Brussels.
