I blame Bernard Matthews.

Yeah, he probably has a Croydon connection - definately nowhere near leafy Banstead- which is about a mile from Croydon boundry !

That did make me laugh, but I know it's not really appropriate on this thread. On the thing that unites the whole of these islands, the ability to find humour at the worst times, is one of the great abilities we shouldn't lose.

I have never felt unsafe here in Central Croydon and walk everywhere.

But Bexhill-on-Sea sends a shiver down my spine.

Bloke arrested in Norwich for supplying the gun, thats Norwich in Norfolk- a notorious Croydon overspill !

Even street gangs get weapons from out of London for the most part Southend is a hub for drugs and guns for East London criminals has been for years the only weapons you can buy in London usually are bb guns converted to fire live rounds or some overused dusty gun more likely to blow up in your hand. If everybody got there guns from London Street gangs would still be using flintlocks.

Arrested with a gun dealing class B drugs in Croydon. Is that a new lifestyle choice of the people of Banstead now?

In my humble opinion there are a lot of posts that miss the point:-

An innocent, thoroughly decent Copper, was gunned down in a place he should be relatively safe (context), by someone that still has not been named, or had his details or his photograph released. Why could that be?

Some, within the Labour Party, have tried to gain political capital from this tragic event by blaming austerity again. (And remember, if you blame those that have been in power for 10 years, as suggested, then, by definition, you blame those in power for the years before for the cause of the need for that austerity. You surely can’t have it both ways and should apply balance).

Austerity and, therefore, the Tories may well, indeed, have contributed. It has meant that there has been no money for technological advances (so body scanners to custody suites) IF someone thought of that and it was planned. I have no idea but feels logical to me. Unfortunately and upsetting as it may be to some politics ‘fans’ - all three ridiculous political parties have some not insignificant responsibility to shoulder there.

There is a cynical (but probably accurate) view, however, that Labour - the ‘left’ if you will - will look for excuses, scapegoats, blame the Police, blame us (the public), blame anyone but NOT shoulder or point any responsibility towards the weak, liberal, soft shoe wearing leftie minorities or themselves.

The far right will, of course, blame immigration, people of colour etc etc as this fits their unpleasant agenda.

The rest of us (normal, decent, sensible members of society - black/white/immigrants/citizens/visitors etc) probably want this f****rs head on a spike on London Bridge to act as a deterrent, but are crying out for politicians that represent us ALL, governing by consensus and discussion (remembering that every MP represents a majority of people in an area) and not blow in the wind, taking the position that will get them maximum benefit for minimum input. They’re paid to serve - so they should serve and represent. It’s a serious job not a popularity contest.

Regardless of anything, EVERY MP of every party, should be supporting the police and everyone should absolutely turn their thoughts to the brave Policeman’s family, friends and colleagues - and every step should be taken to ensure that an event like this never happens again.

That was probably said when PC Sydney Miles was shot in Tamworth Road in the 50s

Very true and I don’t doubt, for a moment, that will be the case and it will be said again, sadly.

Yup. One of my sons knows him.

Good school, good university, not likely to be in a gang.
