Cruciate ligament injuries finish some players' careers.

Not ones with strong mentalities and good medical teams. The club will know in a few weeks of training.

Liverpool knew Clyne was finished, otherwise they would of patched him up and sold him for a fee.

Just a suggestion here: I have wondered if this is all part of smoke and mirrors regarding the Ferguson saga. The fact we are considering Clyne as we are unaware when Ferguson will be fit, is this in anyway our attempt to keep any Tribunal payment down? I have no idea but we seem to like a bit of penny pinching

He was excellent when he was with us before. If he could remain fit he would be an excellent addition to the squad but I can't see him agreeing terms to become a third choice player. He was reported to be on £70k a week, a third choice Palace player should be on no more than £20k a week, one hell of a drop.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

He's only 29 years old. If he regained fitness (big if), why would he be 3rd choice. A fit Clyne with game time is quality and would probably be pressing for first choice. Certainly a gamble though if he can regain fitness and previous form.

In which case he will be on around £50k a week, which would be better spent elsewhere.

I agree about the money side of things. I’d have him on the basis he can train with us and on a pay as you play basis. We are doing him the favour here. If he had people knocking down the door for his services he quite simply wouldn’t be here at all.

I’m sure he would be very enthusiastic about a pay as you play contract. It’s not Vodafone he’s training with. He is a professional football player who I’m sure values himself a little bit more than that.

These pay as you play deals are always muted - I’m yet to see one implemented..!!

So you would rather take on a player who has a cruciate ligament injury for £50,000 a week, when Ward is fit, Kelly is fit and we have the young lad. Nonsense, we can make far better use of that money. He is simply not needed and that’s exactly how I would treat him. If he wants to train with us fine. He might be able to teach Ferguson and Mitchell a thing or two, but give him a contract, no way.

Don't think it was all about hit injuries - he seemed to be off getting pissed and taking drugs fairly regularly (allegedly), rather than committed to getting back to full fitness and competing for his place in the squad. Liverpool don't need to invest in a player like that when they have bigger fish to fry like winning leagues and cups.

Ferguson has also played at centre back.

If Clyne hasn't lost any speed or strength from what is a very serious injury for a footballer then not considering a contract would be a missed opportunity....as at his best he deserved his English caps at right back.

I think with Clyne his mental state comes into play more than most and that would also factor in....however, he has good memories of Palace and this might feel like a homecoming for him.

It's all about what that injury has done to him.

If everyone's fit, I wouldn't take him, but arguably our first choice back 4 currently all have no estimated return date on the heads.

If Ward or Mitchell were to pick up a 4 month injury on Saturday, we look desperately short.

I'm not hearing any noises that suggest we'll see Cahill, Tomkins or Ferguson for another couple of months at least. Tomkins has already been out for 6 months. There's little news of the centre backs training and all three are a full pre-season behind everyone else.

Ward
Kelly
Kouyate
Sakho
Dann
Mitchell
Riedewald

^ that could be all our options for the foreseeable which is arguably okay IF they all stay fit.
