Not a great weekend for us at the moment. Tepid display coupled with a few bad results/scores. Hopefully some recruitment of new blood might raise the spirits.

missed the game, and reading a few comments, and just hearing the last bit on the radio, we parked the bus, and chelsea coasted. was it that bad?
agree wickham will not last the full 90 yet, but maybe start him to hopefully get a lead, then replace when tired? from what i heard, he ruffled a few feathers, when he came on. but i think we need pacey, full of effort striker (not ayew) to change things, rather than just the big target man, wickham, benteke, sorloth

Yes would have been good to draw or even win but 0-1 is the least worse result and could have been 0-3 if the Lino had kept his flag down twice.

One nil not too bad in terms of goal difference.
Nothing much else about game.

Hennessey would have been heavily criticised if he conceded that goal.

Can’t remember being so bored at a Palace match. Players didn’t seem interested , crowd was flat. Never looked like scoring.
Boring.

Lots of people on here complaining about the performance today being tough on the supporters who paid the money/made the effort and went to the game, but can anyone actually remember us having an exciting match in the post-Christmas period in living memory?

As I remember it, most times our lot have played like they've overdosed on pudding and were running through custard.

You are right. But it’s annoying when you feel like you’ve put in more effort finding a parking space for your motor , than the players did playing the match.

Think if we had set up a more adventurously in attack then quite easily change the formation with some subs if it all went awry. Subs can be used in all sorts of ways. Chelsea have a world class player, shackle him and you have a chance. Stick one player on him like glue. Didn't strike me as a team at the moment which would give anybody a pasting, struggling 2-1 to beat Watford away recently. In fact they managed to give a good account of themselves, having more shots than Chelsea.

Blatantly obvious - we lack creativity.

McArthur, Milovecic, Kouayte good defensive work horses but can't make a telling forward pass.

Van Arnholt has the ability but played the ball sideways or backwards.

Meyer must start - he is the only creative player we have. If the forwards, stop-gap or pukka, don't get any service, or run into space, then we won't score.

I agree, if Hennessey had let in that goal he would
have been pilloried.

You can argue about the use of substitutes but we don't have much choice!

If ever a game highlighted Palace's problem, it was today.
Defensively I thought we were well organised and disciplined with an effective game plan that nullified most of the Chelsea attacking threat.
Offensively, yet again, we were almost totally ineffective, at least until Wickham and Meyer came on and we started to chase the game and at least made Luiz and Rudiger have to break sweat. It made me very sad to see Wilf having to struggle as a target man, a role he clearly is unhappy about having to fulfil. He tried, of course he did, but it was only when Wickham came on when Wilf was able to start running at the Chelsea defence and look like he might cause some problems.
5 goals from home games tells its own story. Three fit and effective strikers that can rustle up 10/12 goals between them in the remaining 18 games should be sufficient to see us clear of relegation. But those 3 strikers look likely to be Wickham (2 x 30 min appearances in two years); Benteke (3 goals in a season and a half blighted by injuries and loss of confidence; and Solanke (1 x Prem goal) - so it looks likely to be a very tense second half to our season.
Here's hoping we kick off 2019 with a convincing 3 points at Wolves.
