There's no doubting though, that at £2.5m he is a good purchase as a player that can cover several positions and adds to a squad that massively lacks any real depth.

He WAS better on the left, every time he played there.

I'm going to be perhaps unduly harsh, which is rare for me, but I think we'd be better off having a youngster on the bench earning £5k pw than Ayew. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong if he signs, but I just don't think he offers anything. He can't shoot, he can't head, he rarely plays an incisive pass and when he dribbles he seems to just disappear into a corner. He also seems to look eternally p*ssed off. I don't understand the point if a £2.5m fee and millions a year in wages for someone that doesn't contribute anything? If he gets a 3-year contract he could end up costing us about 8-10m. Personally, irrespective of the comparatively low fee, I just don't think he's worth it.

I’m not aware of any front players being prospects or successful on loan. The top division is highly demanding. Remember in the early ‘90s when there were hardly any youth players getting into the first team until relegation and then the opportunity was there again? Unfortunately it’s even more demanding now because of the amount of money attracting higher talent from around the world, but if they don’t show any promise on loan or in training up against Prem level players at least then that’s that.

This should be an indication of our ambition for this season. He was a waste of space.

Supporters I have talked to our very much of this view.Indeed some have concluded that he was actually worse than a "Waste of space" ! However clearly there are those who believe that £2.5 Mill for a squad player who can fill-in when necessary in a variety of roles is not bad business.I would state that whilst the fee is not extravagant in PL terms, one has to factor in the wages and the total cost to the club.

It’s nothing new that we don’t have an ambition to challenge Everton, Leicester, Wolves, West Ham etc by signing a cheap backup player because of mistakes and neglect of scouting and being prepared for August rather than February at a higher cost but that is where we are. I’ve been tempted to opt for the laptop and armchair like you. I may do exactly that, but the club is facing reality until we get the fanstasy buy the club you demand.

My point is, why pay for someone who hasn't offered anything, when we may as well give a youngster a chance who may well also offer little but wouldn't cost us anything. Far more youngsters would probably succeed if given the opportunity to play. The ideal option of course is that we just buy someone who will make a difference.

I suspect he’s on a wage most forward players in the Prem would demand but without the transfer fee you’d pay for a prospect from the championship. The other factor is he doesn’t take up a loan space, if they apply from championship clubs.
