Sunderland sold their best player in Pickford and brought in utter rubbish on huge wages that went missing. We are not a selling club. Harsh to compare us to Sunderland.

Fans need to accept that you can't have it all. If you want an upgrade in the stadium that will affect spending levels in transfer market. If you want sh*t loads spent on the squad, expect selhurst to remain the same.

On another note, we are seeing this summer how outrageous the West Ham stadium deal was. It completely puts those tossers at an advantage. Shed no tears for their 'sold a dream' rubbish. They're loving life now.

If we don’t buy a very good midfielder to replace Cabaye then we really are again playing roulette next season. I’ve said I do think we will but if anybody thinks we’re fine if we don’t bring one in then they’re deluded.

So as usual it’s either one extreme or the other in Palace talk.

I totally agree. It is not about a lack of ambition but about reality. We have spent a lot of money on some marquee players on high wages. We have made Wilf one of the best paid players in EPL. The end result is that we have a fairly ordinary squad outside our first choice players, many are solid EPL players but they are not superstars. The reality is we need to keep an eye on finances. I suspect we have money to spend but it will be to strengthen squad overall and may not be a "name". A lot will depend on fitness of our recently injured players. Wickham in particular if we think he is not going to be fit we need a striker and they are not cheap. We need a number of midfield players to replace Cabaye and RLC if he doesn't return (I think he will). We need backup for Wilf and Andros as Wingers as Kaikai is not EPL standard and its too early for Lokilo who it was rumored would be loaned out to a french side. At Central Defender do we need to replace Delaney ? is Dann going to be fit soon? are Jach or Innis good enough

Dann is scheduled to be available from mid-August, which doesn't mean he will be of course.

Borderline?

If he gets injured? Jimmy nor Luka can do what Cabaye and POSSIBLY Rlc can do from back 4 into the final 3rd.

I don't know if it's extremes, but you need to ask questions. One is: can McArthur, Luka, Riedewald, and Puncheon provide enough in central midfield? I agree we're just OK in defence. I would have preferred Ryan Fredericks to Ward given they were both out of contract, but as Hol claims, it's austerity so we can't match West Ham's wages. Alas.

And in attack, can we survive with Benteke, Sorloth, and Wickham?

Two, maybe three players in (including both domestic and foreign loans) can solve this. It's not extreme to ask if this is going to happen. I still hope it will, but it would have been nice to have key new players available early in the pre-season campaign. Other EPL teams have done it - and not all those teams are rich.

The current Palace squad almost mirrors the England side.

A good goalkeeper, a solid enough defence and a reasonable attack.

But absolutely no creativity in the middle of the park. Luka is a great captain and defensive midfielder, but we have nothing going forward from there.

That's why so would have liked to see Wilshere come in. Getting RLC back is nowhere near certain, so we need options.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'survival again hodgson states ?' by bexleydave

i have just read a article quoting that Roy Hodgson has said next season is all about survival and theirs is no shame in that ??

i understand that we need to keep things realistic but surely we must be thinking top 12

How can the american investment or whatever it is be alright with that

Last season we chose three midfielders out of four (from Luka, yoyo, rlc and jimmymac) - we've lost one of those def, poss two, and they need replacing - simples - Schlupp or Jairo are only back up as far as midfield is concerned, if we got M'Villa, Tufan and Antonio (who can play as a number 10 as well) that could just be enough, replace either M'Villa or more likely Tufan with RLC and we'd def be OK imho.
