I am a total novice at anything like this.

If i wanted to buy, say £100 of Bitcoins - where is the best place to do so?

Thanks for any advice

Incredibly volatile market TUX. Be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks mate.

It is bud but given the size of the 'task' (attacking the current financial system that continually robs us all) it's to be expected.

Buy Litecoin.

I agree with Tom but for that amount i'd find my nearest Bitcoin ATM tbh. A quick 'google' will show your nearest machine and there's plenty of info on Youtube showing how they work.
The fees are a bit steep but it's quick, easy but more importantly it gives you OWNERSHIP of your crypto in the form of a 'Paper wallet' (a receipt of your new account). This will hold both your public and private keys so keep it safe (maybe make a couple of photocopies just in case?).

Edit: Or try this to hold Litecoin (it will multiply many more times than Bitcoin imo)........

TUX and I disagree with this. I think it's a slow race to the bottom whilst TUX believes further big rises will happen.

I'm sure there will be a spike again soon, it's knowing when the market is about to change.

Can't see any long term future for any of them myself as they don't actually do anything!

Wow! Litecoin down over 10% today with Bitecoin down over 8%!

But still way ahead of where they were this time last year. This is a good sign.
The media hype that led to the 'artificially' inflated prices (people out to make a quick buck without knowing what they were actually investing in?) prior to Christmas should be ignored.

As i've said before, think early (ie when the world was clueless regarding it's use) internet. Look at where we are today.

Worth a watch imo.......

What actually are the practical applications of cryptos?
I understand the blockchain has some very significant potential uses, but how about the other cryptos?

Regarding a comparison with the internet, it’s clear to me that cryptos will have nowhere near that impact. But I’d be interested to know some real world applications.

I used to think the same until i done my own homework.

There are many.

The internet is the latest form of communication. Communication is hardly new.

But I’d be interested to know some real world applications.

See my first response.

You haven't actually answered the question.

You seem keen to encourage people to buy but you won't explain what the benefits are.
