I am not normally one for defending the indefensible...but here goes.

Beneteke's all-round game was not terrible on Saturday.
Far from it. We were sat behind the goal at the Sainsbury's end. He won two huge headers from way beyond the back post, nodding them back into prime danger territory. They should both have been assists for goals, and he was clearly gutted that nobody had gambled on him winning the first balls.

For all our decent possession out wide, I don't recall anyone putting the ball on his head in the danger zone. Sako was more likely to hit the Arthur Wait from the members stand side of the pitch.

When it was played to his feet, CB generally kept it and laid off simple passes.

If a Palace player misses a penalty (and I am old enough to remember Bright, Wright and Pembo all missing in the same game*), I fail to see how booing them before the end of the game will achieve much. Some generous souls up our end were actually booing him as he came back to defend a corner; what utterly self-defeating prattery! I sensed they'd have been happy if he'd banged in an own-goal just to crown the moment.

Here's a thing...that we are a Premier club at all is in (small) part down to the efforts of Cameron Jerome in our first season back...the battering ram who barely scored two league goals all season. CB should never be allowed near a penalty kick ever again, but if he scores a few and others actually get on the end of his knock-downs, we might just stay up.

You are missing the point on him taking the penalty. It wasn't just that he missed it, it's that he'd been long relieved of penalty-taking duties because he was bad at them and missed a bunch, while Milevojevic is excellent at them and has yet to miss one in a Palace shirt.

The penalty miss is almost a secondary crime, compared to the out of control egomania and selfishness that had him grab the ball and refuse to follow team orders. Even if he'd dribbled it the other way and it'd somehow gone in, it's still terrible behavior from a paid professional.

If he'd captained himself in his Fantasy team, which might help explain the incident, he got -2 points instead of just -1.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Really?

Hopefully that level of short-sightedness and negativity doesn't seep through to the team. I also really hope for your sake that you start finding enjoyment at Palace again, because you seem almost clinically depressed by everything that happens at club at the moment. Maybe Roy should loan you out to Brighton in January?

What if Benteke decides that he wants to play left back?

Also, what if the captain, taking that lead, decides it's his ball, and if he doesn't want to play centre back, he shouldn't have to, so he's taking his ball home.

Well that's a bit better I suppose. I still wonder how he could have thought he would score, given that he was evidently approaching it the way he had done previously, i.e. feebly.

Good for him. Now he can get back to missing non dead ball sitters.

What did Einstein (allegedly) say about repeating the same behavior expecting a different result?

as far as I am concerned he should get a massive fine and benched till january its no good ruining the reserves they don't need him and are doing very well without him if we can get 2 decent strikers I would sell him in the summer ( personally I would never let him on the pitch again in a palace shirt ) but that's me

Let's see him prove it. Actions speak louder than words and he knew full well what he was doing and going to do.

We've a problem with winning when playing well and the current performances and/or results are likely to not last and the results can go either way. There's a lot of making up to do for this.

I did think that in the circumstances and given how s*** his previous penalties had been he would at least have the decency to welly the thing for a change.
