Where has anyone suggested it's racist. I note the fgm issue seems to be aimed at Muslims. It's also practised by Christians and Jews. Not a religious practice but a cultural one.

It is a disgraceful practice regardless of who does it and should be eradicated in this country at least.
It is typical of such a subject that people are more interested in discussing the politics of it than actually doing something about it.

Well, seeing as they have been in power for 70% of the time since i was a teenage lad I can only go on that. And they are certainly not competent to run a country. Unless it is into the ground. They have been rather successful at that since 1979 tbf.

That suggests that Labour governments have been better which my experience tells me is bollox.

Less destructive is my take on it. If you know your historical Tory Gov policy since 1979 on housing, mental health care, NHS, education, banking, transport, privatisation, and 'yes, for your benefit only, the EEC/EU, and I know you do, then you will surely agree that that is the case.

Any party that is beholden to unions cannot function in the best interests of the country.
The NHS is a problem that no party has solves or is likely to in it's current form.
Education was damaged most by Labour's downgrading of standards in the 60's and 70's.
Banking? The financial sector has been a strength in Britain's rise from the Labour doldrums of the pre Thatcher years.
Transport. Trains was appalling when in government hands,a big burden on the tax payer and subject to constant industrial action.
The EU was not the same animal when we entered it and The Tories gave us the opportunity to leave.

correct me If I am wrong ( I am sure you will ) but didn't the women of the suffragette movement fight against exactly this type of female oppression ? I believe some of them paid the ultimate price.

But hey as long as we don't offend any minority's archaic sensibilities.

It's funny because you hear the expression,'It's only because they are Muslims' all the time but the sad irony is that some are prepared to tolerate the intolerable 'because they are Muslims'.

Moderate Islam is full of bad ideas. In this sense it's no different to many other religions but I think from a western perceptive it ticks most of the problem areas.

Recommended female dress...while strictly not mandated by Islam is encouraged by most interpretations of it...What I find particularly offensive is the idea that women should 'dress modestly'.

It's an implicit insult to the women who don't.

As for the ideological..some say 'progressive' left and their hypocrisy on this matter. Well, you only have to listen to Islamic reformers like Nawaz to hear how much harder they make his already very difficult job.

More thoughts from Nawaz on the problems he sees from that section of the left.

Its interesting that people have only become interested in this, since they decided on blaming everything on Immigrants and Muslims was the way forward.

It'll never happen, because it will directly infringe the legal rights of religious citizens of the UK under the Equality Act (2004) that classified religious groups as protected from discriminatory practices and orders.

Its just another thing for the popularist bandwagon jumpers out there to look like they're in touch.

All of the monotheistic faiths are full of really bad ideas, especially where women and the non-religious are concerned. Islam is just more highlighted. Ideally, rather than focus on one because its unpopularity makes it a convenient popularist bandwagon - Lets just go with all of them.

Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu - all of these are effectively belief systems that effectively reward second class status and gender inferiority to women.

In for a penny, in for a pound - Lets just sweep the decks of bulls**t misogyny.

That's just nonsense.
Are you saying you are fine with these sort of practices?
I'd say that people got bothered by these things when they found out about them and they found out about them when Islam and various other bizarre cultural habits suddenly became our problem.
I also have a problem with boiling dogs alive in China and that is because I now know about it.

And If I get another undeserved Yellow card, I'm done.
A quick look at who gets the cards on this site reveals an interesting pattern.
