To be honest. Living in a Tory stronghold it doesn't matter who I vote for. You should live somewhere more in keeping with your principles.

How do you build a significant manufacturing base when China and poorer parts of the world can make it cheaper? You either have to have unique hard to copy things to sell or use protectionism. Protectionism only has a chance of working if you essentially have the option of being self reliant.....America could do a limited form of it...though it is to be seen if it is wise. We couldn't. Anyone dreaming of the UK re-creating a manufacturing sector to re-balance the economy is living in cloud cuckoo land....well...there's a lot of loons living there so it might be crowded....Just take out a Labour party membership instead.

I think it is to an extent, a governments responsibility is to it citizens, and their prospects are part of that. Governments have to provide for the people they represent and their interests. The problem is the scale of the problem at hand, especially given the increased academic level of requirement necessary for the new jobs. Its noteworthy that even the Thatcher introduced a number of training schemes, aimed primarily at young people, such as the YTS, which did create opportunities for education and employment on apprentice schemes (I did one) but the problem was always what to do with the older workers, who were educationally unsuited to the new job markets that were springing up. The issue I think of criticism that can be levelled at Thatcher here, is that her government did little to nothing to slow down the death of manufacturing and industry in the UK, instead opting more towards a free market approach, that left whole areas of the country in high unemployment zones. I think that's a fair analysis. Thatcher had the right medicine but she applied it in lethal doses......and some of her policies like selling off council houses without replacing them was tantamount to a crime against the working class.

Palace have more chance of winning the prem next season than Labour winning the election. May will hopefully sort this country out and get on with Brexit. I hope the far left will take a running jump. They have ruined our country with all the pc s***e
