What's that got to do with it. It's a very poor standard of football. And yet you have probably followed Palace for years but that didn't seem to matter. Lots of places have a poor standard of football. Scotland ..And just about any European league outside of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and England. Even some of those countries only have a handful of decent teams. The home nations have a long tradition of football but still the football is sh!te. AFCON is not the best tournament but there will be some world class players on show. Lots of Endland players get injured playing internationals. Would you stop him from playing an England friendly because it's a crucial time for us? It is always a crucial time for us. Every point matters.. If Wilf goes, it will be because the F.A. is sh!te. they are and have for many years been incompetant.. With all that money and tradition. I say good luck to Wilf, I will be watching every game he plays. I hope he does us proud out there.

I'd like to think we had a plan for his absence (given that its more likely he'd have missed a month through injury than international duty). However, its been quite clear that we didn't really have so much as a plan, under Pardew, as a policy of wishful thinking. True. Def mid last season, Left back and Souare this season. Df mid again this season. Just got Flamini in who didn't really play until December.

Having this tournament every 2 years is unnecessary and should be changed to 4.

If we bought Victor Moses back we would have a class winger and full back all in one. Should have done it before now, when he is doing so well.

The big difference is that Clubs like Sunderland knew the African players could be off to AFCON so could plan. Wilf made this descision only in November so we could not plan for his absence. Not sure knowing in advance will do them much good though. They are down to bate bones and Short has apparently decided enough is enough

I think most fans wanted him back in the summer. I don't think any of realised what a fundamental part of Conte's plans he would end up being.

I'd be pleased by news from Big Sam that he has sat down with Wilf, handed him a pay increase in recognition of his talent, sorted everything early, put his future to rest, and wished him the best of luck at AFCON, with Wilf being humble enough to say that he'll fight for his place upon return.

All this nonsense about wanting to play for his country is rubbish. He wanted to play for England, but then realised he was never going to be picked with Southgate in charge, due some poor behaviour whilst in the U21. Southgate is a known strict disciplinarian and bombed a few players out.
