He is a quality player. Teams like Spurs don't get seriously interested in players that are no better than Dwight Gayle. I really like Gayle but he was limited in what he could do although he was working hard at it. Berahino is younger, and far more experienced in the prem and is an all round better player. No point looking at stats. When they came to Selhurst last year Pulis played him in central midfield and he still looked like an attacking threat which was clearly too much for Pulis who then took him off. It is widely known that Pulis doesn't like him therefore won't play him where he wants to be played. When he does get played upfront he invariably scores. Do I think he is hte answer to our probelms - no, but he would be a great addition and I am sure we would get someone else in as well. That is it. Anyone saying Berahino is no better than Gayle is crazy. Spurs are looking at top 4 every year and it was only WBA refusing to sell that stopped them getting him, they even looked again in January but now changed to Janssen. I must have missed their bit for Gayle.

Perhaps a strategy we should have followed rather than letting Gayle go without any signing in place.

although not officially a swap deal maybe there was a gentlemans agreement in place regarding Gayle and Townsend.

Don't get me wrong, I think Saido is a very good striker with a lot of potential and could be really good for us if we could use him correctly. It's only because we have been strongly linked with benteke, who I would argue is the better striker for our system, that I would question his signing. We struggled to incorporate gayle, even though I still really rated him, and even though Saido is a better striker than dwight, would we not struggle in the same way?
