More Waffles......That would be what my flag would say.

As we should show respect for those die while fighting under a flag, are we to assume those who flew the Confederate Flag at Palace are showing this respect? Who are these Americans? Also can we fly a swaztica at Selhurst in respect for those who died for such a worthy cause?

As has been said in the thread. The flag is of the South.....We are a South London team. That probably is the loose connection.

It makes sense in that context but really......The flag could be altered a bit to reflect that.

I can't think of a connection between us and the Nazis.

An excellent idea, a massive 'CPFC Eagle' in the centre with the legend 'South London Rises Again' would be f**king awesome (not only because it would so so Palace, it would rehabilitate one of the greatest flags in history from its murky past).

I cannot state clearly how much I love the Confederate Battle Flag.

14 pages later and not a whole lot of progress... The connections between Palace and a Confederate flag are incredibly loose; they both represent 'the south' and have red and blue on them. Surely there's a better choice of symbol, especially as the Confederate flag has primarily negative connotations. I used to know a couple of black people from the American south and they both despised the Confederate flag. It makes people who are familiar with its history uncomfortable.

No doubt there is a better flag.....The thread was more about the rights of the individual and the connotations of this flag to different people.

Wouldn't fly it myself but I maybe would flag one heavily altered.

7 pages ago I was going to post a long message, but I didn't want this topic to continue, so I'll continue to resist posting my rant.

Bottom line is that thankfully, the decision makers at Palace immediately and correctly decided to remove the flag.

By the way, the US Civil War was fought over slavery.

The Civil war was fought over secession from the union. The North winning stopped it from happening.

You seem to be saying that the South and North were only fighting over slavery. Now no one isn't saying it wasn't the main reason but it was by no means the only one. There is a huge amount of documentation over the differences between the two sides.....Differences that remain today and still cause tension.

you've failed to consider that possibly the H.fanatics have just used it as a 'rebel' flag & not considered or even don't know the history of the flag.

How many times does it have to be said that most people think the HF didn't understand the connotations but have now been told by the club.

So don't expect to see this flag again.

Nobody seems to be taking me up on my suggestion for flying an LTTE flag by the way. They also were involved in (and lost) a very nasty secessionist war, surely just as deserving of attention as the confederates. But of course they were the North and not the South.
