The lie of austerity.
Erm, none actually, but at least I don't live at home still with my parents.

Erm, none actually, but at least I don't live at home still with my parents. Hang on a sec, was that directed at me? I've just spent ten minutes trying to find out if Paul Krugman lives with his parents...

Austerity was never gonna work; Osborne is the worst Chancellor the UK has had in living memory, he's run the economy with a strategy based on ideological reasons rather than pragmatic. Shrink the public sector and everything will be ok? He couldn't be more wrong. Especially when companies were reluctant to invest due to the negative sentiment that "austerity" brought; many, many private companies depend on their income from government spending. Cuts have ensured that these businesses have cut back or folded. Another five years of austerity? Well even the much derided Ed Balls had suggested in 2010 that 10 years was the better option, rather than the five that Osborne has been forced to abandon. If Cameron was serious about wanting a second term, the best thing he could do is get rid of Osborne, but he's not, and he won't have to worry about a third term as that would never happen.

He either was full of crap when he won the prize, or is no longer worth being mentioned as a recipient!
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

Austerity has harmed the economy apparently. The article doesn't say that at all. It says in the opinion off 33 unnamed people, two thirds thought it had. The date of the article is the most pertinent part of it because it's just really crap journalism.

you do realise that we are in over a trillion pounds worth of debt? Austerity is just a word for living within our means and yes cuts have to be drastic in order to save enough money to pay it off. It wouldn't be like this if we weren't in so much debt, lets get that sorted out first and we can then rebuild. I dont understand how people want to to vote for a party that wants to borrow even more, wasting taxpayers money through vast interest payments

Yes it will be paid off but not if we waste it spending on things we simply cannot afford. I have no idea who we owe debt to, but I do know that we are paying enormous amounts of interest on it. Look at what has happened in Greece, we need controlled spending which maintains our public services and encourages growth without maintaining areas of government where we are loosing money to no avail. Look at the police, a smaller force- yet crime is down 20%. As long as I like the majority of the people are not seriously adveresely affected then I think we should cut as much as possible; in order to live within our means.
